I didn't think this was possible. I drove to the store without my key or FOB.
I started my car in the driveway, left it running to warm-up and went back into the house for a few minutes. Drove to the store, shut the car off, heard a few beeps, so I hit the rocker switch again. I thought that I had accidentally put it in the accessory mode.
When I went back to the car to leave the store, the doors were locked and I realized that I didn't have the keys (FOB) on me. As it turns out, I left them at home.
Here's my question. If you leave the car running and close the door, should you be able to open the door and drive off without a FOB? I always thought that if I left my car running, no one would be able to open the door and drive off if they didn't have the FOB.
In reproducing the situation, when you shut the car off (in this case, when I got to the store) the car beeps and a message comes up stating "No FOB detected. Run or off?" If you choose off, and exit the car, after eight seconds the doors automatically lock.
Sounds like it was working as designed, the way I read the 2012 owner's manual. Don't know your year. Once the engine starts a fob is not required to drive it. If you want the door to lock you'd have to take action to lock it.
Well, I guess unless the 2006 is different, I was wrong. Before today, I don't think that I have ever tried to open the door with the car running and without the FOB.
It sounds completely normal to me. If you have the car set to lock automatically, it only does it when you exit the car, take the fob, and the car is off. If you leave it running, it will not lock by itself...it will lock when you hit somewhere around 10mph.
It's like any other car in that the door can be opened from the outside if it is not locked...fob or not.

The doors don't lock when the car is running until you put the car in gear. If it's a manual tranny, I think you even have to get up to a certain speed before the doors lock automatically. This automatic locking is not associated with the one you program for when the car is off.
If you're driving the car at 70 MPH down the interstate, do you want the car to stop running the instant the fob battery dies?

They automatically lock only if you've got them programmed to lock automatically through the options via the DIC.
To answer title question if you are male and have a wife then yes, just ask my wife...
Ok for question on your FOB. I think you should be able to adjust the settings on wether you have to have the FOB on you to unlock doors etc... I can not unlock from the front door and then come to the car a few minutes later and get in with out the FOB. You can try changing those settings so maybe that doesn't happen?
The fob is only checked when the car is started, after it is running, the presence of the fob does not matter until the car is turned off. Then the car gives you one chance to save yourself if the fob is not seen.
