Driving to work this morning on I-70, in traffic, when a rock comes out of nowhere and puts a divot in my windshield, on the lower left side. I wasn't even following a truck! Should I get it repaired or pay the deductible and have it replaced? How reliable are the repairs?
repair it ! till ya get another chip..its not in your field of view...its just a road "scar",. hey a badge of honor, at least you drive your vette...........
i had several on my 01 z windshield ,before i repaired it , and did a non oem for about $450
Replacing a Corvette windshield is no casual task, we had one done by an experienced shop and discovered a year later it was leaking.
If replaced, be sure to get an OE windshield and HUD version if needed.
For me, I would consider the repair if the location wouldn't be annoying.
Do you actually have a deductible on your comprehensive? For me (State Farm in Illinois), the premium reduction was so small that one claim every 20 years would put me in the hole.
YMMV.
My last and current insurance policies cover 100% of a repair.
Two years ago, my Lexus caught a rock right in front of the driver's line of vision; star burstabout 3/4 the diameter of a dime. I had the insurance company send Safelite out right away before it spread. They patched it in under one hour. If the sun is at a perfect angle, then you see enough of a flash of reflection to figure out where it was, but at night, or rain or most of the time, you'd have no idea it was repaired.
Since yours is out of the sight line, I'd recommend repair.
Pay for repair yourself, don't let the repair company put it against your insurance. If you put in a new WS right away another rock will mess it up too. When you get tired of looking at the imperfect repair job and you haven't been hit by a rock for awhile, then turn it in to your insurance company and get a new WS. If you have HUD make sure your new WS is compatible.
Just my opinion....another vote for repair if it isn't in your line of sight. Why disturb the factory sealed windshield if it isn't absolutely necessary. Especially if you can pick up another stone the very next time you drive it.

I had three or so such chips successfully repaired. Some repairs were invisible, some only nominally visible. Either way the repairs were quite acceptable and far more economical ($10-$15 each) vs new windshields. All lasted longer than I owned the cars.
Suggestion: Repair the chip. If you can not stand the repair, only then replace the windshield. The cost of repair is nothing compared to the cost associated with a replacement.

You may not have a choice in the matter. Your insurance may decide that it is too small to require it be replaced and order a fix only. Should be a non-deductable claim, mine was but the small ding turned into a large crack before I found it.
Get a repair as it is out of your field of vision, I have gotten one on our 09 and had it fixed over two years ago and the repair worked as it should
Have it repaired...
I was following another vette buddy and he got on his a little and threw up a rock and it hir my windshield. I contacted State Farm and they suggested to repair it since it was not in my field of vision. They recommended a repair guy and he came to my house and repaired it for a cost of $40.
Awesome advice everyone, thank you! I called Allstate and my local agent said that I can get three repairs to the windshield done for free and then gave me the name of a local glass guy they recomend for the repair. I called them and they are going to come to the house on Monday. It's free to me with Allstate paying them for the service. If I am not happy with the repair and request a new windshield, then I will have to pay my deductible. I am sure I will be happy. My biggest concern is winter cold and freezing water causing a crack so I want to get it fixed right away...
I agree with going with the repair method. It avoids a possible leak if a new w/s was installed. I have had several w/s repaired and I also agree the sooner the better as this is the time of the year that a problem can start running...

Yup....ditto here as well. Had this done twice on two different cars..never have any issues whatsoever.
