Does anyone know how to remove the dash bezel for the HUD on an 06? Dumb question, of course someone does. It looks like it just pops off but, I'm a coward. i don't want to break it.
if you're removing old one to put in a new one the easiest way is to have the cluster area opened. Pull down with one hand on back of dash and push forward towards windshield on bezel with the other. It's pretty much held in with pressure and the back clip
I believe you, but it looks like the mirror slipped off the pin. Is there glass in the HUD unit that would prevent me from putting the mirror back in place?

happens pretty frequently (usually in the '05's),the retainer is plastic and breaks over time. You can either replace the unit itself or just replace the plastic peice with metal so it doesn't happen again.

IIRC, there's no way to repair a HUD by reaching in thru the bezel. And I don't recall anyone ever trying... worst case, you might leave fingerprints on the glass... or, get your hand stuck -- how embarassing would that be?
Anyway, an experienced HUD installer (like Andrew6) can replace your damaged HUD in an hour or two. Or about 8 hours at a dealer because their procedure requires a more involved disassembly.
From another thread, more details on the pivot-that-fails :

I purchased a used unit and checked the pivot and it also was ready to go so beware if you purchase a used unit. I modified the mount point of the reflector pivot with some .015 spring steel that I had in the garage. This is where the HUD reflector will fail and with this side broken the opposite side will also break rendering the HUD unusuable.
I went without my HUD for a couple of months and I'm happy that it's fixed again.
