Default Glove box

A warning to all-do not slam or force closed the glove box door.

I am sure I did it a few times in the past and to day and the plastic latching button assemble broke.
The compartment is latched closed. Anyone have any advice on how to get it open.
Thanks

Lots of people with similar problems, and being gentle does not guarantee the latch will survive.

Look under there and take a pair of needlenose pliers and pull on the metal part. Should come open very easy.

Cashmere seems to be the worst color. I bought a ebony replacement and had TKO finish it in their gunmetal grey CF to match the rest of my interior.

I broke the cashmere latch on my 07 vert earlier this year. The metal internal part is L shaped. Pull on the bottom part of the L and outward to unlatch the door.

I have a question.

As this is a known weak point, what has GM done about fixing this obvious design flaw?

AFAIK, they've done the same thing as with most other problems that could have an easy production line fix:
Nothing

It seems that the majority of broken latches are either Cashmere or Titanium, mostly on late '07's and early '08's. Perhaps later ones are better. Since I replaced mine, I don't use the glove box, so I don't know if the new one is any better or not.

Mine was already broken and gone when I got the car with 1,700 miles on it. Titanium '07. Make sure to save the broken one as the lock cylinder will be transferred over to the new one. Much more money if you have to buy and key a new cylinder. Needlenose pliers on the metal part will open the box...even strong fingers can do it.
