I have a 2011 Camaro SS and those Brembos are pretty sweet. But are they better than the base C6 ones? (not the optional ones) also who makes them?

Well the Camaro needs them to stop all that weight !!!!! I had a 2010 Camaro SS and i would say the standard C6 Brakes work just as good but the Car is 800lbs lighter so that helps alot !

hard to tell. my understanding is that the brembos on factory-cars are not the same as aftermarket brembos. it all depends on what was the specs written and what was achieved in production.

For the 90 percent of us who only drive on the street and no track, does it really make any difference?

Let's see in a standard GS 60 - 0 in 100 Ft. If you're not tracking it who needs to stop in a shorter distance?
It's NEVER how fast YOU can stop it the guy behind you that you have to worry about.

According to Road & Track magazine test results:
2005 Corvette Coupe equipped with Z51 performance package would stop 60-0 in 119 ft, 80-0 in 204 ft.
The 2010 GS Corvette 60-0 112 ft, 80-0 197 ft.
The 2010 Camaro SS 60-0 119 ft, 80-0 209 ft.
That's what I read in Road & Track.

Since the subject is BRAKES not WEIGHT, the Brembo's are a better braking system/package if you just comparing brake components.

Actually it doesn't. Any of the brake systems available on the Vette will stop the car in as short of a distance as any other. The different brake packages don't provide any benefit for one or two stops. If you can lock up the tires the brake is doing all that can be done no matter how big or small the calipers are. Where the bigger brakes come into play is when you make many stops or hard brake applications one after another for long periods of time (say 10 to 15 minutes). The bigger the rotor and brake pad the better it can absorb, store and dissipate the energy built up during all of those brake applications and thus increase the time before the brake system fails due to overheating of the fluid or the pads.

Stolen from How Things Work.....
Bigger isn't necessarily better when it comes to all things automotive. But when talking about brakes, size generally does matter.
That's because braking performance depends in large part upon how much surface area the brake pads have to bite into. Larger pads and larger brake discs make for shorter stopping distances.
60-0 stopping distances:
ZR1 ~96 ft
Z06 ~106 ft
standard C6 ~114 ft
