New 2012 L1, just scraped the underside of my right rocker panel. I backed into a driveway and with one wheel on the asphalt and one in the grass....STUPID... I know. I scraped the under side of the rocker panel which is rapped around plastic or fiber glass.
You can't see it unless you lay down on you chest and look. What are some suggestions other than forget about it?
I'm not even sure I would go to the trouble of spray paint - just touch it up. If it is that hard to see with the scratch, painted - it will be hard to see.
I high centered my Z06 coming out of a restaurant's parking lot. Three 12" long scrapes but not see-able unless under the car. I went to O'Reilly's and had them Mix up a large spray can of Cyber Gray paint. I cleaned the area and masked it and sprayed it. At the same time I painted a black plastic license plate frame for the rear and the door handles Cyber Gray. I can still see the scratches when under the car but they are not so noticeable since the bright white SMC isn't there anymore.
The first Ding is a bugger. Messes with your head. Can't sleep. But it will wear off.
Last week, on the freeway, a soda can came out from under the car in front of me, Hit square in the middle of my hood. Sounded like is was full. I never stopped to look at it. For the 30 minute drive home, I was so pissed. Did not know what to do. Thought about totalling out the Vette, so I could get a new one again. Nothing but bad thoughts for 30 minutes.
Got home and there was no mark at all. I could not believe the hell I went through for nothing.
I would have traded a Rocker Panel scratch in a minute. Funny how we think.
Yea just let it go. There will be others... If you drive the car. It happens.
Think of it as a "character mark".
Our Victory Red 2009 was only a couple of months old when I hit a piece of metal with the side of the right rocker panel, about half way up the panel. It chipped the paint completely away and left a mark as big as a nickle, glaring white.
By the time I drove a few hundred miles home, it was barely visible under all the road grime. So I cleaned the area, used the GM touchup paint to cover the white, and resolved to not wash that area as much.
Now I can barely find it, even when looking.
You had a great car before, you still have a great car.
The zanax and wine will wear off. If you're like me, it will start bothering you again.
Have you considered getting some matching spray paint?
I recently ran into a metal jack stand in my garage. It had fallen over and was so low I didn't see it. It put a couple of deep scratches on the lower left front fender.
So last week I ordered matching spray paint and clear coat. The scratches are close to the bottom edge of the fender so I should be able to blend it easily. Still waiting for the paint to arrive.
