I am thinking about purchasing a lock pick for my factory navigation system... I am just wondering has anyone ever installed one of these? How good does it work??? I wanna be able to hook up an ipod or my phone to my unit... Also, it states that the Navi can also play DVDs once you install the lockpick is this true? Thanks ahead of time for any input...
Quite a few threads on this already, and very positive. I think the video is limited to files from the iPod or iPhone, not from the Nav's DVD drive. Try searching for "Lockpick 360" for some recent comments...
I had one installed along with a Boyo rear view camera. Works perfectly. Nothing visable as far as wiring goes. Perfect if you want to see what is behind you. When I put my 2008 in reverse the camera comes to life immediately.

In all honesty, I picked one up about 2 years ago and decided against it because it required modification of the nav radio itself (that part didn't particularly bother me as I work with electronics all day long) but didn't like the thought if I ever needed to replace the radio, I'd have to rip all the mods out (replacement of flex circuit boards and so on). And I didn't really care about a back up camera anyway.
So instead I went with their iPod Lockpick instead. It works great (for the most part), sounds great and I can control the iPod right from the nav screen. It was also a lot less expensive. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they sell this anymore... bummer
As for being able to fully use the nav while underway, I went with Sunset Orange Creations C6 Nav Commander. No radio mod, easy to install and it works perfectly.
I installed my lockpick 360 in my C6. Not difficult to do if you've ever installed a car stereo before. Coastal e-tech gives very good directions. Modifying your stock head unit is not difficult; you're only replacing a ribbon cable. I don't think too can play DVDs; just video from your idevice. Only caution is that post sales support from coastal is AWFUL.

Gotta agree with that.
Early on, after installing the iPod Lockpick, I did have a problem. Called their phone number, only to be told they'd have their "tech" call me back. When he finally did (the next day), I could hardly understand the guy through the extremely thick...uhhhhh..... Hispanic accent. And even then, he never did understand my question nor answer it satisfactorily.
So I decided if it ever died, I'd just replace it with a PAL
I've been reading reviews over on the other GM forums that the sound quality of the Coastals Lockpick unit is terrible. Anyone care to chime in ?
If need be I can post links to the forums/threads where people are commenting on this
I really don't understand why anyone would think that the lockpick would have a major affect on the sound quality. After all, it's just a device that allows your to connect your iPhone, iPad and iPod to the existing stereo. Your factory stereo and speakers are the components that really are affecting the sound.
The sound quality is just fine as far as I'm concerned. You may have to adjust the bass, treble etc to your individual taste, but it's sounds great to me.
Can't speak to other than their iPod Lockpick but it sounds great. I would put my iPod playing system up against anything out there, seriously.
(sound quality is a very subjective thing however but as an ex recording engineer, I kind of have some experience )
WoW... need I say more Hopefully you're not yankin my chain because you just sold me on giving one a try

But the lockpick is still acting as a medium for processing and transferring the music/data. I can see how a bad setup could affect music quality quite easily.
That and there has been several posts of people on other forums doing several tests to confirm that it was indeed the lockpick setup that was causing the poor playback / sound quality (regarding the music ofcourse). See the link below, this is one of many
