C5 and C6 have pretty much the same chassis, suspension, transmission layout and gearbox (<08 MN6).
The C6 has more power and has a better tire/wheel package and better overall handling. That being siad the money you will save on buying a C5 can be used to equal or surpass the performance of a C6.
The only real reason to buy a C6 is styling. If you prefer the C5 styling there is no reason to buy a C6, period.

I finally got to test drive a c6 today, an 08 LT1. First one I've driven after driving 3 other c5's in the past month. My immediate thoughts are:
way better interior, like 100x better
more refined driving, tighter control and steering
much quieter ride
felt like a modern car both in and out unlike the c5
As far as the c5/c6 looks go, I think I've determined the answer on that (for me)...it depends on the color. On the yellow c5's I was looking at, I liked the yellow c5 more than the c6 ones. On dark red ones though, I like the c6 over the c5.
I've been debating the same c5 vs. c6 thing on what to buy. I was about 50/50 before. My personal thoughts:
If I was only using it on the weekends, I'd save money and go c5.
If I was modding the performance, I'd save money for mods and go c5.
If I was daily driving it, I'd spend the extra money and get the c6.
Since I'm daily driving it, I'm about 95% sure I'm going c6 unless I got a great deal on a c5.
