Thanks in advance for all of your help! You are all a wealth of knowledge....
2007 base coupe z-51 package. When I got the car a few months ago I noticed some rust on the rotors. After using some wheel cleaner and washing the car, I noticed a little more. Is there a way to "shine up" the rotors and/or get rid of the rust?
If there is a way, I would like to know as well. After each wash, and if the car sits there, rust will form.
Just taking it for a drive will get rid of it, and not come back until they get wet and sit for awhile.
You mean I actually have to drive the car! Great another excuse to go for a ride....Honey I have to leave and go for a drive so I can prevent the rotors from rusting....

Thanks again!
Now you know the big secret why many Vette drivers never take the car out when it’s raining!
Think you're better off leaving things alone. Installed some cadnium plated SP rotors on my C5, and the fronts started pulsing when the coating began wearing off unevenly. Had to have the parts store surface rest of the friction area off. Still looked pretty though, as the cooling fins and hats always looked like new.
When I wash my car a thin layer of rust immediately develops on the rotors. After I'm done washing and drying I take the car for a quick spin around the neighborhood applying the brakes a few times and.....voila!...no more rust. Seriously, this is the quickest and easiest way to get rid of and prevent rusting of the rotors.
Folks,
My 2006 with Z51 has non zinc coated rotors that have rust everywhere the pads don't touch. Are OEM Z51 rotors all non zinc coated or are mine probably replacements? Rather unsightly but it seems like a lot of work to clean them up and paint them which would eventually wear off. Does anyone know if thet can really be zinc coated now and any idea of cost. Somehow I didn't notice this when I bought the car used but it drives me nuts now every time I look at it.
Thanks,Dave
I have actually had good luck with Armour All Wheel Protectant! After washing let wheels dry and spray wheel and rotors. It keeps the area of rotors that pads don't touch looking like new. Brake dust & dirt don't stick to the wheel as they promised. I found an application lasts 3-4 weeks.

As far as I know there are no zinc coated stock rotors. Zinc coating is all aftermarket. Maybe this is more of an issue on the larger Z51 rotors. I have the base brakes (2006 F55) and the pads sweep nearly the entire rotor face so they look nice and shiny after just a little braking and stay that way until they get wet again.
What gets me is after you've taken the time to clean the wheels, wheel wells, and flushed out the rotors, when you retun from the "dry off spin around the block," all the CRUD that didn't get flushed out ends up on the wheel wells and LOOKS LIKE HELL!
