Actually it beat the GS in the quarter mile test... 12.6 for the ZL1 vs 12.7 for the GS.
At almost 4100 pounds, it will not hold a candle to the Z.

What do you mean EVEN GS....many on this forum think that GS is better(wide body, brakes and list goes on) than a Z06 so i sure would expect GS to beat a ZL1

Car & Driver says it will not just slap down the ZL1 it will do the same to the ZO6.
Despite the GT500’s barbaric output, Ford has come a long way from the muscle cars of yesteryear, wherein engineers fitted a bigger, more powerful engine and called it good. A new front fascia is home to the same revised headlights as the other ’13 Mustangs, and there’s a new front splitter. That last bit is important, as Ford says the new GT500’s top speed is in excess of 200 (!) mph. Chew on that, Camaro ZL1. Heck; chew on that, Corvette Z06, with your piddling 198 mph. Overall, Ford says the 2013 GT500 has 33 percent more downforce at 160 mph than its predecessor. With a factory Mustang joining the 200-mph club, drivers will appreciate standard Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers in the front and larger rotors and new pads at all four corners.

Good article. The power to weight ratio between the GS and ZL1 is pretty near even at just over 7 lbs per HP.Even the article says they are close on the track..I like the ZL1 and because of it's power to weight I'd consider buying one!It would be a Vette with a back seat!!!Maybe I couldn't take a curve in it as I would the Vette, but all the rest seems spot on!!!That new f55 suspension it's got ain't bad either!

GM better bring it because Ford sure has and they did it for an asking price well below the Z's. I said it in another thread, there's a HP war going on and Ford has taken off their gloves for this one.

Ford hasn't solved any problems in the new GT500, they just added power. They still run narrow tires and the best suspension ford has in the mustang (Boss 302 Leguna Seca) was already bested by the ZL1 by over 2 seconds on a 2.2 mile track. I don't expect the Z06 to have any problems with a GT500 and the ZL1 will put up a good fight.

I know there are a lot of delicate egos on this board along with some Ford bashers but I'm not one of them. If a company is bringing a good product and raising the bar, I give them their props. Ford has done that.
Now I'll wait for the typical response........"what about in the twisties?"

I'm not saying the GT500 is not impressive, it is...but don't ya'll go gettin your panties in a bunch over an article. Anyone that knows anything about HP , cars and being "fast" knows that suspension, tires, weight etc... all play a factor.
In fact, I'll go as far as to say...I would hope a car that is 7 years newer than the Z06 would beat it.

Actually, I'm not a Ford guy at all. I have been a Chevy guy for most of my so called adult life.
My post was in response to a member that appears to be a ZO6 owner, that rather gleefully posted the ZL1 was a beast until the GT500 arrived. Well maybe. All I did was a simple google search, and found the C&D article. We all know C&D is no fan of the Corvette, and I personally do not believe the Mustang will spank the ZO6. As a matter of fact I have found other articles that say the exact opposite.
Point was be careful what you say, as it can be turned right back around. Not really sure why some Chevy owners like to bash the Camaro. But, when done some should be prepared for what may come back at the car they own themselves.
I do agree that the Mustang has raised the bar. I'm glad they do as it keeps Chevy on their toes. I personally love that the Muscle Car era is back.

I have to admit, that GT500 does look sweet, I would not mind having one to park next to my Z
And I would agree too, it's good that Ford keeps rasing the bar and compete with Chevy.. we the customers end up normally on the winnng end of the compitetion between the 2 as both companies churn out some serious performing cars trying to outdo each other.
