I always heard more drone in the coupe, slow down, your going too fast, why did you have to turn so fast. When the top is down she has to yell louder and the wind noise cancels her out. (Of course I'm deceased if she sees this).
Anyone who's actually owned both will have to conclude that the vert is quieter inside than the coupe. The lack of the hatch area effectively insulates the cabin from more road and exhaust noise than the coupe. That's a simple fact.
My 03 C5 vert was quieter than my 07 coupe is. But the coupe is more fun to drive.....

Top up, the coupe is more fun; but top down nothing compares to a true convertible. I've had both, and loved both cars, but a warm summer night in a top down vert is something special.
BTW, no one has mentioned that a top down vert has less cabin turbulence than a coupe with the roof panel removed. It does.
We could get into the classic coupe versus vert debate here ...

LMFAO,That's what that noice is, the nagging wife! all these years I thought it was drone!
I have searched this topic and have found some conflicting results, as usual with this topic. But i would like to run a poll and to see, from owners with experience in both cars, if the vert has less drone than the coup. I am leaning towards the B&B fusion without headers and possibly an X pipe if that would lessen the drone. Any input from you knowledgeable folks would be greatly appreciated.
My vert was so quite with the top up I could not hear the car running...drove me nuts. It had to pay more attention when starting off with the 6Sp due to a lack of audible feedback from the engine and quite exhaust note.
I replaced the stock exhaust system with a Flowmaster American Thunder system...I can hear the car now...sounds like a V8 should sound
I have an '09 coupe with NPP performance exhaust modified with collars to keep the exhaust valves cracked open 1/4" all the time. Drone wasn't a problem as much as annoying road noise. Padded cloth roof headliners in the transparent roof, berber floor mats, a Vettebin, a cargo divider, twin cargo shades, Blockit sound deadening mats plus a carpeted cargo mat, and Michelin Pilot Sport+ A/S ZPs all around still didn't reduce road noise to the level desired. I therefore added SoundTec foil-coverd acoustical foam wth leaded vinyl center layer between the twin cargo shades supported by six rubber bungee cords, plus additional pieces against the rear wall of the cargo compartment, a cargo pop-up-assist spring, and an adjustible cane to act as a cargo lid support rod. This blocked off any remaining road noise that penetrated the cargo compatment floor and mats from reaching and being amplified off the interior of the hatch glass into the passenger compartment. I can still hear the pleasant growl, burbel and pops of the exhaust, but virtually no road noise (finally). Life is good. By the way, the SoundTec insulation doesn't interfer with cargo capacity, it and the cargo shades still defect upwards to accomodate taller objects; and if need be, the shades and insulation can be easily removed and reinstalled.

Vanilla versus chocolate?
I always loved removing the top on my 08 Coupe. I thought it was the best thing in the world until I bought my GS Vert and put the top down. It takes around 75-80mph just to get a back draft with the top down. With the coupe there is a lot of wind noise when you hit around 40-50 mph.
My buddy has a coupe and told me they were noisy - I thought for sure when I bought the vert it was going to be unbearable... Quite the opposit! Love the vert!!
If Verts drone less I cannot imagine having a coupe. 2010, Vert, NM6, NPP. Very nice until you try cruising up a hill at 75 - 80 and push the pedal to maintain speed. I would be willing to trade some sound for reduced drone.
