March issue of Car and Driver profiles 2012 ZL1 580 HP Camaro for 56K$. Not that far behind ZR1 Corvette at 638 for a lot less $. Also talks about the Camaro using 3rd generation MagneRide Shocks which provide a 40% faster reaction time to soften ride. Is Chevy waiting for the C7 to put these goodies in Corvette. In the past GM introduced best performance technology through Corvette? Does the 2012 Corvette have the 3rd generation Magnetic Selective Ride Tech? Also mentioned that the ZL1 Camaro with 580 HP can be had with a Auto trans. Interesting?
The ZR1 and Z06 would completely destroy the ZL1. The Grandsport and ZL1 are practically equal from what I have seen. The goodies from the ZL1 were at least initially developed on the ZR1 and I think both the ZR1 and the Z07 package on the Z06 gets a version.
A 1LT GS Coupe with roughly the same list price as the ZL1 Camaro is almost exact in acceleration , handling braking, top speed etc. The difference is that you have a Corvette versus a Camaro. Another thing to keep in mind that you can buy that Grand Sport at a big discount and the ZL1 will cost you list price or better. In reality you can probably buy the Corvette 1LT GS for about 5-10 grand less than the Camaro.
