Default 2005 service column lock -- help!

A few months ago I bought a 2005 C6, and have nothing but problems since :/

Just some background on the car. Shortly after I got it, the "service tire monitor" came up on the display, and the pressure of all the tires showed XX. I took it to get fixed, and they replaced the tire monitor, but the problem was still there, and the mechanic said there's most likely an electrical problem, as sometimes when driving, the ABS and traction control lights will randomly come on. Sometimes I get a weird feeling in the brake pedal right before they come on, like a pebble is stuck in the brake pedal or something, its hard to explain.

Then, recently, after having the car sit for a couple days while I was out of town, the car wouldn't start when I pressed the ignition button. All the lights and everything came on, so I knew the battery wasn't dead. I checked on these forums and found a temporary solution, if I disconnected the battery, and then reconnected it, the car would start up like nothing ever happened.

Well, I tried that this morning, and the car does a semi-loud click, and then doesn't start, displaying "service column lock" message. Now I'm stranded :/

I've tried searching but only find C5 problems. Anyone know what the problem is? And about how much it will run me to fix?

I had the dealer fix both of my C5's for free even though both were years past their warranty. I did learn to jiggle the steering wheel while starting it and the wheel did free itself so at least you won't be stranded.

Unless you absolutely know the battery is good and not in need of replacement I would consider that as a source of the problems. These cars don't do well "electrically" with low voltage situations and many of the issues you describe CAN be caused by a low voltage / bad battery condition.

There is a recall to fix the "SERVICE ACTICE HANDLING SYSTEM" which is also the steering column lock problem.

I've been getting random service tire monitor on my right front with an xx reading. I added some air to it once and that fixed it but it happened again and fixed itself a while later. I may take it to Discount Tire and have them relearn it to the car and see if that solves it.
