When you say clear plastic, do you mean the Cleartastic that TKO sells? If so give Ed at TKO a call. He sels both, so Im sure he could help answer your questions.
I had both on. Got tired of the clear film coming off or lifting when I washed/waxed the car, plus after a while the rear clear film started to yellow. I removed the clear and have not gotten a mark on either the front or rear fenders with only the GM splashguards.
I have had clear film professionally installed on my front bumper, hood, headlights, fog/driving lights, rear view mirrors, rocker panels, & rear fenders (brake air inlet area & flared fender area). I love it! Can't see unless you feel the edge with your finger. Wash & wax my car ALL the time (very **** retentive) and it's fine! When waxed water beads just like the normal finish. Cheap compared to repainting or new lights.
Clear film I am describing is self applied with a squeegee, not like the film that you have that is professionally applied and not going anywhere. Not sure which type the OP is referring to, assumed it was the one that I had used as he only mentioned the fenders, and if splash guards were just as effective.

Ok sorry. A friend of mine has a standard C6 coupe (non wide body) & I agree not much gets thrown up onto his car. He did however have the clear film installed on his rocker panels as that was the only area he found to get stuff thrown up from the road.
I have the GM splashguards and they are just about perfect. They look good and blend in well with the lines of the wheel openings, but they keep everything off the side of the car including armor all tire dressing.

The factory ones are all I have and work fine for me

I've got the GM splashguards and I feel they enhance the look of the wheel wells - especially the rears. The Z06, GS, and ZR1 all come with splashguards, why not add them to your car...
The widebody vettes need clear film on the rear fender flares and brake vent area. The narrow body vettes don't seem to pick up as much debris in those areas.

Yup, the GS / Z06 come stock with very effective and nice looking splash guards on the rear.
The problem we have with the GS / Z06 is that GM don't offer a front splash guard like they do for the narrow fendered G6s ... and the front splash guard avail. for the base C6 don't fit on the GS / Z06.
Why they fail to offer front splash guards for the wide body Vettes is what I can't understand.
Just finished the install of GM's on mine. Couldn't have been easier. I showed them to my wife and she said "if you hadn't pointed them out to me, I never would have noticed them" Guess that's good though.
