Default Tires - Run-Flat versus Regular

Just installed Hankooks on my 2008. What provisions are being taken when running regular tires? I have a plugging kit and a small air compressor for minor problems. However, what are others doing to minimize the non repairable problems? Running shoes?

On star, fix a flat. How do you like the Hankooks?

Just had installed yesterday. Choose Hankooks based on all the positive reviews I have read. Total installed cost was $1,190 at Discount Tire.

I also switched to Hankooks about 2 years ago. As I rarely if ever get flats in any car I have ever owned, I just carry the kit & mini-compressor. We also have AAA+ with the 100 mile towing option and I have active OnStar in the C6. Absolutely no need for run-flats and all their noise and other performance negatives.

Check your tires a little more often....I installed Invo's on my 'Z last summer. I find myself checking the tires for nails screws etc before I drive it as well as keeping tabs on tire pressure.

If I were to dd the car then I would change back to rf's. But occasional use and the improvement in ride without giving up any characteristics in handling is worth the risk of having to be flatbedded for me.

Think I'm going for them in the spring. Did you get the stock sizes or did you go wider?

I have been running non runcraps since my C5 days and I have had on flat on the C6, picked up a screw and had my KDW patched and drove that way for over 10k. I carry a plug kit, fix a flat and a small air compressor, did not need it for my one flat though

Wife - drive - I'm not thinking a fix-a-flat is in her repertoire.

Just seems like a PITA waiting to happen, sorry. I'm a runflat guy.

I drive my car hundreds of miles from home on a regular basis during spring, summer and fall. I do not need the aggravation of fixing a tire or getting it towed. Run flats only!

We take our 2008 C6 on 3,000-5,000 mile back road trips exploring America so run flats are a must when you are out in the boonies. Put on the Firestone Wide Oval Run Flats last year and they were significantly quiter than the GY's

I had the Michelin AS ZP run flats on my last vette and when the factory OEM Good Years on the new vette wear out I will be going with that same Michelin AS ZP's again.

The Michelin's were so much quieter, superb in heavy rain even at freeway speeds for over 100 mile downpour. With 25k miles on them when I sold the car the tread still looked nearly new.

Once you sink some serious coin in wheels, I won't risk a blow out, shredding a tire and trashing a rim.
The difference in "ride quality", at least on a Z06, would be negligible vs the Michelin ZP's I'm currently running, anyway.

Some current runflats are much better than 10 years ago except in price, if that's an issue to you. Most popular are the Michelins, we have the PS2 ZP for summer and A/S ZP for winter, very satisfied with both.

But to answer the OP question, have:
Small compressor
Plug kit
Cellphone w/ car charger and extra battery
Roadside assistance program (AAA, etc)
flares
Sidearm
(Possibly) Slime internal sealant, now claimed to be Ok for the sensors.
(Possibly) Jack to get the weight of the wheel for re-seating the bead.
(Possibly) proper wrenches to remove/reinstall wheel after taking to tire shop.
Rabbit's foot.

We have runflats and still carry the first 6 items on the list.

I can't remember the last time I had a flat but as soon as I would switch to a runflat I'd have one. Call it paranoia.

I perfer the security of the runflats. You could have purchased Michelin Pilot Sport A/S run flats for $1244 including shipping from discounttirediredt.com and then paid a shop $80-100 to mount /balance them for a total of around $1334. Only around $144 more then what you paid. I bet the Michelins(500 wear rating) will last twice as long as the Hankooks(280 wear rating).
