I picked my car up from the shop last night and on the way home I had to stop for fuel. While I was at the gas station I had a guy ask me why I screwed up a Corvette like that. I asked him what he was talking about and he said it sounds like some some kind of drag car. I kind of giggled to myself because I have shoe polish on the windows from the dragstrip. I explained I like to run my car at the strip and that is what the shoe polish on the windows is from and why the car sounds the way it does. He said he also owns a C6 and he would never abuse a corvette like that and that I should not be allowed to own a car like this. I asked him what he thought a Corvette should be used for if not racing. He just shook his head and said not for a dragstrip. Now I could see a reaction like this if I had mud tires and was at an offroad park but running my car at the strip. I do not understand people who buy a car like a Corvette and they drive it like it is made of egg shells.
Lol...probably just a waxer who only drives it on nice, sunny days and has never taken it about 4500 RPMs.
My dads neighbor has a 911 Carrera S who washes it more than drives it and has never taken it to WOT in the 2 years he has had it.
I'll never understand people who do that. I would've made sure to let him know he was an idiot. I've never had someone give me a negative comment on how loud my cars are. Most think it's the way an American car should sound (and it is).

I'd have said, "Good for you", finished my business.
Out cruising I saw a bumper sticker on the rear of a pickup meant exactly for people like that, it read: Do Something Nice Today. Mind Your Own Business. -Perfect.
Definitely different stroke for different folks. I find it odd that some random guy would come up and say that but I also don't think there is anything wrong with pampering a car either.

HEY!! Are you talkin' about me? OK. So I've only had my car five months and I've waxed it 46 times. And no, I don't take it out if there is so much as a cloud in the sky. You have to understand- I'm single, OK? I gotta have something to play kissy face huggy bear on. All right?.....
Yeah to each his own...my '07 has 18k miles on it...I never drive it in inclimate weather and have never taken it WOT. It's my garage queen and I love it!!

I agree although I do go pedal to the metal on occasion. Hard not to resist.

With absolutely no offense intended, driving any car on the street with the shoe polish drag strip info still on the window is kind of a 'poser' move and does obstruct vision. Sometimes what we innocently do brings out reactions in others - not always good ones.
I am a pretty laid back guy, I took no offense to what he said. Myself I would never walk up and say something like that but we are all wired different. It takes a better guy than me to be able to drive a vet every day at the posted speed limit and never stretch her legs. I love when you are sitting at a light and the car is just cam clucking and shaking the whole body.

My car went from the strip to the shop and I just picked it up last night. Now I am sure I could have paid the shop to wash the windows but I figured it was something I could handle at home. I do not drive my car around with shoe polish on the windows, I do not need to pose for anyone. I do not own HP tuner or EFI live so when I run at the track I must take it to the shop for adjustments. In this case it was at the shop for a transmission code.

I agree its bs to buy a sports car for cruising. Maybe he meant the cars are intended for road racing? Drag racing really does punish the drive train considering you have to launch it from a stop instead of rolling...
Still sounds douchey though and a lot like a child with developmental issues whos is trying to be social. 1st rule of owning a corvette is not bashing other vettes unless theyre a beat up c4 or theyve got stick on chrome taillight bezels.
screw him at least youre getting fun out of your car.

and what you do in the privacy of your own garage needs to stay there.

Well, I have to assume you're joking and don't actually wax your car every 3-4 days, but I'm more talking about people who have their cars and ONLY do that without driving them hard. I don't mind not taking a car out in the rain if you know it'll rain and it's already clean, but I wouldn't sacrifice a trip anywhere because of it.
My car is always cleaned up when possible and I claybar twice a year with a full 2-step polish (about an 8 hour ordeal) with my FLEX DA and do a minor detail with a single step polish (about 5 hours) 1 additional time between the two full details. It's re-sealed generally every other month.
It also makes over 700 at the crank and sees WOT on a very regular basis as well as road courses and drag strips.
There is a happy medium between a garage queen and a busted-up race car.

To each their own as they say. I should not be criticized any more for not drag racing as those who choose to do that type of thing. We all own vettes for our own reasons and should be able to do with them as we please.

1. I drag raced for over 30 years, when I used to drag race my street cars, I would have that shoe polish off immediately, then cruising that night and even the next night I would see those bracket three cars (over 13 second cars) still cruising with their numbers on.
2. I never race my Corvettes, they are my street driven cars, even though I don't drag race them or track them, I seem to be enjoying them very much.
