Default rear-ended :(

Yep.....

Was sitting at the light, a young guy ended up running into the back of my car.....

I was much calmer than what I was expecting...
None the less, now I'm wondering what the cost is going to be.... Should I run it thru insurance....

Not sure why you are asking this question.

If I understand it right, you were rear ended. It was the other driver's fault, correct?

If so, of course you run it through your insurance. It won't cost you anything..........will it?

Sorry for your accident!

damm that really sucks. people just dont pay attention. now sorry to say even though it looks just like a simple bumper repair and we all know its no big deal but going thru ins raises the possibility of a carfax accident report on the car. see if you could possibly get him to pay for it out of pocket.

Sorry about this...it has to suck. My advice, after having a couple of accidents where others were at fault, is to call your insurance company immediately. If you don't you will be jerked around forever by the other company while they wait for police reports and whatever other excuse they have. Your insurance will get your going asap plus they will go after the other company and become your advocate.

A.,

For me personally, I would just want my car fixed back to as good as it was, without costing me anything. Then I would enjoy my car. I wouldn't be so concerned about a possibly slightly lower resale value.

I would be more concerned that if you don't go through the insurance, you may end up with a problem collecting from the other party. Do you think that the other driver will be willing to foot the whole bill when that is what he has insurance for?

If you go that route, you're taking a risk unless you get the cash up front to cover everything.

I was rear-ended when my 2011 GS was all of 5 hours old.

Here is the deal ... First of all, I hope you have the guys driver's license number, his car plate number and his insurance companies name and policy number. Also, I hope the police made a report.

With that, file a claim with your insurance company. They will send you someplace to get an estimate. Then your insurance company will pay for the damage to your car [minus] your collision deductable.

When the at-fault driver's (that other guy) insurance pays your insurance company, your insurance company will reimburse you back your collision deductable.

So, after that, you have nothing out of pocket, and the accident will not be charged to you (no insurance premium increase).

Now, while they are repairing your car, get a rental .. pay the bill after you turn it back in .. save the receipt .. and fax it to that other guys insurance carrier once you have talked to them on the phone regarding the rental car.

They will send you a check to cover the rental car cost.

That's it.

Good luck :

oh no doubt about it. when i mentioned this in my earlier post it was with the applied impression that you get the money UP FRONT if you should go this route.

As I stated above ... you go through [your] insurance company, and let them handle the details with the other person's insurance company.

The OP will [NOT] be charged with the accident by his insurance company if he was rear-ended.

Along with a body shop, I'd take it to the Chevy dealer and have them check alignment, suspension, and any other possible thing that could have been damaged.

While stooped at a light on way home from a road trip yesterday guy locks his breaks and skids to a stop off the road and even with my passenger door! Very close and only 2 miles from home. I see your point on diminished value, with cash payment you wouldn't get dinged by car fax.
Good luck.

Going thru insurance will generate a carfax in most cases. If you do then you need diminished value claim. You should take a bunch of pics and have of file if you dedide to sell privately or trade if its mentioned.

You can pretty much forget about a "Diminished Value Claim" with the "at-fault" driver's insurance company. Getting a Diminished Value comp. check from them is like pullng teeth. Don't get your hopes up at all that, because you have about a 90% chance that you will never see it.

And, it's a crap-shoot whether or not the accident shows up on a CarFax for your car ... If it does, well, that's life.

Personally, I just wish the government would shut down CarFax all together. There reporting is just hit and miss, and in most cases, not accurate at all ... Just a bunch of BS!
