rear-ended :(
Was sitting at the light, a young guy ended up running into the back of my car.....

I was much calmer than what I was expecting...
None the less, now I'm wondering what the cost is going to be.... Should I run it thru insurance....

If I understand it right, you were rear ended. It was the other driver's fault, correct?
If so, of course you run it through your insurance. It won't cost you anything..........will it?
Sorry for your accident!

I know the ins would pay for it, but if the dude pay for it out of pocket.....
Thats all I care about in the end.....

For me personally, I would just want my car fixed back to as good as it was, without costing me anything. Then I would enjoy my car. I wouldn't be so concerned about a possibly slightly lower resale value.
I would be more concerned that if you don't go through the insurance, you may end up with a problem collecting from the other party. Do you think that the other driver will be willing to foot the whole bill when that is what he has insurance for?
If you go that route, you're taking a risk unless you get the cash up front to cover everything.

Here is the deal ... First of all, I hope you have the guys driver's license number, his car plate number and his insurance companies name and policy number. Also, I hope the police made a report.
With that, file a claim with your insurance company. They will send you someplace to get an estimate. Then your insurance company will pay for the damage to your car [minus] your collision deductable.
When the at-fault driver's (that other guy) insurance pays your insurance company, your insurance company will reimburse you back your collision deductable.
So, after that, you have nothing out of pocket, and the accident will not be charged to you (no insurance premium increase).
Now, while they are repairing your car, get a rental .. pay the bill after you turn it back in .. save the receipt .. and fax it to that other guys insurance carrier once you have talked to them on the phone regarding the rental car.
They will send you a check to cover the rental car cost.
That's it.
Good luck :

The OP will [NOT] be charged with the accident by his insurance company if he was rear-ended.
Good luck.

And, it's a crap-shoot whether or not the accident shows up on a CarFax for your car ... If it does, well, that's life.
Personally, I just wish the government would shut down CarFax all together. There reporting is just hit and miss, and in most cases, not accurate at all ... Just a bunch of BS!
