Original thread here,

Well after getting it checked out, it is a resprayed panel. Paint guy knew with in seconds. He popped the hatch, felt the edge and said it was rough Which kinda pisses me off. The original owner didn't know about it (I hope), and I didn't know about it.

Original owner had it for 2k miles, and about 7 months. It now has 8k miles on it.

But I had the dealer pull the VIS on my car, and I found some interesting stuff. It appears to me that the original dealer had it repainted. Which would explain why the original owner 1) had the rear carpet replaced 2)hatch adjusted.

Are dealers required to list any paint damage that occurs say in transit?

I believe in most states it has to reach a certain threshold in order to be reported but if asked they have to disclose it. I bought a new car last fall and one fender is a different shade. It was a dealer trade but neither dealer says it had any paint work done on it.

sorry, or glad to hear you found that out. as to the vis report, that's one reason why many on this forum strongly urge people, regardless of great condition or low miles, to first ask for the vis on the car they're thinking of buying. had you seen that before you bought the car, it might have been a different situation now.

hope it gets fixed to your satisfaction, altho I doubt if there's an obligation to do so by the dealer.
