Ok, finally able to scratch the Corvette itch. of course there is a dilemma. Right now the choice is between a 2009 and 2008. The 09 has a 2LT with Z51 and NPP. The 08 has same setup. 09 has 2600 on it and the 08 has 5000 on it. I see that most suggest getting the newest that they can afford. My concern is warranty and service or lack there of. The 09 is at a chevy dealer and the 08 is at a high performance car dealer. Am I in the same boat warranty wise with either car? Could I extend the warranty easily with the chevy dealer? Also the 08 is in another state and I would then be looking at a state inspection. Any advice would be appreciated
I would check if the Vette from the Chevy Dealer comes with a CPO(Cheverolet Pre-Owned) warranty. I think that it extends the factory warranty, but suggest you either google it, or check the Chevrolet web site.
Also, if you have the VIN number, you can email Gene Culley and he will provide you with any dealership warranty items that were done to the car.
Just me, but if the price difference is reasonable, I would get the '09 since it is from a closer dealer. When buying a used car, I'd rather have the dealer close.

...and if it's not a CPO unit, get the extended GMPP at the time of purchase.
The B2B warranty on the 08 probably ran out last year. There may be a year or so left on the 5 year power train warranty but that isn't a big deal unless you plan on tracking the car. The 09 may still be covered under the base B2B warranty which gives you the chance to buy a GMPP before it runs out.
It's amazing that so precious few miles are put on those cars! If the prices are close, go with the newer vehicle. Neither will be worn out, take you pick and scratch the itch!!

I would shoot for the Z51/NPP optioned car. I had a '09 vert mn6 with those options and really liked it.
Could I extend the warranty easily with the chevy dealer?
If the 3 year/36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty hasn't run out already, getting a GMPP (GM extended warranty) is no problem. Once the 3/36 warranty has run out, the only way you can get a GM extended warranty is if the car is being sold at dealer as a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) unit.
You will want to ask the dealer for the IN-SERVICE DATE of that 2009 (the date it was originally sold and the 3 year bumper-to-bumper warranty clock started running) so you can figure out if the 3/36 warranty is still in effect.
If the 3/36 warranty has expired...and the car is a CPO...you will have no time to decide whether or not you want the GMPP extended warranty. If you want extended warranty coverage on a CPO car, you have to buy it at the time you buy the car.
You didn't mention if there was any price difference between the 2 cars???
The 2009 is 38,895, the 2008 is 34,860. The dealer has had the 2009 since mid June of 2011. I walked in with a check for 38,500 and they basically said get lost. I'm just trying to understand why they've had the car for so long. It originated in California.

It could have something to do with you can buy a new 11 or 2012 a just over 40K, of course no Z51 and it will be a 1LT.. If you were looking a a hard loaded 3LT at those numbers that would be a different story of course...

and that info underlined is relevant because....? and we don't know where you live (not filled in profile).
a $400 difference in asking and your check, and dealer wouldn't accept it? tells me they're not serious about selling the car, or something else is going on here that we don't know.
The '09 will have bluetooth; the '08 won't, if that matters to you. I would get a GM VIS (Vehicle Informatin System) report run on both cars (you would need to supply the VIN of each car to a GM dealer and they should print them for you for free. If not, forum vendor Gene Culley at GMPartsHouse will do it for you, just e-mail him the VINs. The report(s) will disclose all warranty/recall work done on the vehicle(s) and any warranty block that may be in affect.

so, what else is going on here?
My bad AORoads, 38,500 was the out the door price, taxes and everything. I figured I would give it a shot and see what happened.

I would think after having the 09 on the floor since June 2011, he'd accept your offer. You're asking for $400 less than his asking price plus taxes, license and doc fee's. He's got someone else on the car or he doesn't want to sell it. Just my 2 cents, but keep your offer on the table. Maybe even write out the check with 38.5 and tell him "last chance, take it or leave it". He needs your business almost as bad as you want the Corvette. Play hard ball.
I wonder if either of those cars has ever even had the oil changed?
Let us know what you find out, please.
I would try and get the 09, just pay the extra money they want, screw it. You can try to negotiate on the price....
BUT if the 3/36 has expired and its not a GM certified car I think I wouLd get a newer car that qualifies for a GMPP warranty.
Make sure and get the front end aligned before you leave the dealership and hopefully get the oil changed as well, free of course
