Default 2010 c6 base - adding HUD

I didnt get HUD in my vette. Looking to add one.
Do i have to remove the whole dash to add it or is it just matter of pooping of the cover and adding it it...plug and play as some would say?

Andrew6 or some of the other installers on the forum can chime in... but when I had mine done, he had to remove the steering wheel and part of the dash to access the area underneath the top of the dash.

Don't have to remove the dash or steering wheel, you can if you want to go that way but -------, you can also do the "cut the duct" method. Just remove the instrument cluster, cut the duct to the drives side ac vent remove it, install the HUD unit, reinstall the duct with a little black tape, reinstall the instrument cluster, and you are done.
Talk to andrew6 he is the best. There are detailed instructions in this forum on how to do this by both methods.
I just installed one in my 08 using the cut the duct and it worked great.

Steve Doten did mine, with the cut the duct method. Couldn't be happier. No way I would have done it myself. Unless you are good at things like this, I'd pay either Andrew or Steve to do it. It's a great addtion.

Waiting to hear back from Andrew6. Meanwhile, if anyone is looking to do it themselves like me, i did some research and found this video for cut the duct method.... The video is great and it walks you thru step by step....

Lots of folks have added HUD -- myself included. You can get a complete parts kit from partstaxi.com for under $400:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-p...staxi-com.html

All C6's are factory-equipped to accept a HUD. It does NOT require any new programming or electronic magic. The dash cut-out is already there. Even the mounting studs are installed at the factory.

It does require some new wiring. Otherwise, I'd say it's "plug-and-play". But to plug-it-in requires access to an area behind the instrument cluster. So you have to remove some trim, the cluster, etc.

Experience installing aftermarket audio is helpful.

The Big Question: Are you handy & looking for a day-project... or do you just want to get it done?

That is, like any DIY mod, there's a learning curve. Allow a full Saturday if you've never done a HUD install.

Whereas, an experienced pro (Andrew6, Steve Doten) can do a great job in a few hours or so. Might be worth a road trip to get it done.

Do some reading before you decide:

I'm very happy with mine. Installed it 2 years ago, no problems.

-Youtube video provided a great summery.

--CO lighfoot consistently puts up useful reference links

---Hanny, among other pioneers have provided useful hints on the install.

So, there is no reason you can not do this yourself. Maybe you will find improvement in the process and post it so others might benefit.

And when you say, I put the HUD in! That is a statement in the first person sense!!

A friend of mine several years ago had a HUD (not in a Corvette) and when replacing his windshield had to buy a HUD-compatible windshield that cost 2 to 3 times more than a regular one (to reflect the display correctly). I assume a special windshield is not required for the C6 HUD?

Correct. The HUD compatible window does make it a little brighter, and some have reported it brings the image up a little, but it looks great with just the standard windshield too.
