Default Black-Out Help

I ordered a black out kit from one of the CF vendors - love it. When I positioned the lenses I got one off center and had to remove it. When I put it back I used clear velcro tape instead of the original 3m tape. I hate the velcro because when I put the turn signals on, even though it is clear, you can see the tape. It looks OK when the lights are not on, but, it looks horrible when they are on. I went to Home Depot today to find the 3m doubled sided tape and could not find any that was clear. Can anyone tell me the product number of the tape I need and where I can buy it?

Thanks in advance.

Erwin

I don't want to send them back, I like them. It was my fault. When I aligned the lens to put it on I got it a little off center. When I removed it I wrote the forum and asked how to get the darn thing off - it was stuck real good. Using the advice I got I got the lens off. I attached it using the clear velcro - not my cup of tea. So, I am looking for a source for the clear tape to put it back. Maybe I will send a message to the guys I bought them from - but, I would rather just run down the road and buy a roll.

I bought some at a home decor store Michaels i think it was. Any one that sells arts and craft supplies should have it.

Just be careful when the tape gives way and the lens falls off. Mine did, so I had them painted.

That is the problem with craft shop tape. I am not sure what tape they use on these things, but, it sticks like a bandit! Painting them is the right way to go and probably what I will end-up doing. With that said, being Mister Mechanical I have no idea how to remove the original lens to send them off. If you can explain that it would be helpful. There is someone of the forum that will send you the blacked-out lens if you send them your originals. I think that is the way to go over the tape stuff.

This is what you need. I did tons of research and finally found where to get it in smaller amounts than 100+ feet. ANY stuff you get from officemax, crafts store or anywhere else wont hold the lenses for more than a month. Then you'll be ordering new lenses like I did when two fell off on the highway.

Give Steve Ray a call at Airbrush inc. He did mine and I know he has done many others. I was at the bash with him when we did his and mine. Not sure if he has any cores.

The clear tape I used was 3m but it failed as did 3 of the orig tail lights.

I can tell you howto remove them if needed. Send me a pm when ready.

Get a roll of 3M VHB 4905. I found it at WalMart hardware dept. – “Scotch (card says 3M in corner) heavy duty clear mounting tape #4010T” (1” x 60”). Less than $4. You can also try Staples and Amazon.

Easy to remove.
Rear tail light comes out and it is easy to reach. 5 Minute job on each side.
Front is a little harder. Loosen the fender well panel and gentley open it up enough to get your hand in. Don't need to take it off. There are 3 nuts, just like in the back. Big hands may be a problem. Mine are medium and it worked.
I wet sanded my lenses before I painted then. Took all the factory lettering off. Wait two days after painting and wet sand them again, then polish. Looks like plastic.
Good luck.

Wayback,

Can you PM me with contact info for Steve? Today I lost the lens that was held on by velcro. I want to get these things painted and be done with it.

Thanks,

Erwin
