Default Question for you manual tranny guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been awhile since I have had a Manual transmission so I know I'm a tad rusty. Under normal acceleration my shifts are pretty smooth. However, when I am accelerating hard and shifting fast my wife says I am going to break her neck How smooth should shifting be under hard acceleration, or is a little whiplash to be expected.

Thanks.

Sounds normal to me. I have learned not to have fun when the wife is in the car. My ribs can't take much more.

Shifts under hard acceleration should still be smooth and you will feel pushed back into the seat, not sure the whiplash part is normal. Sounds like you may be a bit jerky with the fast shifts.

Takes a little practice to get smooth if you're rusty. However, these are powerful cars, so even after shifting, WOT will jerk your neck back.
It's suppose to turn a woman on.....
Seriously, these are tight trannies. I had a lot of practice in my 69, but even these are a tighter pattern, and I even installed an MGW shifter(which I would highly recommend!). "Work out" on the highway; just smooth shifting up to speed slowly, as smooth as you can get without any jerk. Try to make that your goal for every shift, and you'll be on your way.

Sounds like you may be unloading the clutch pretty hard. Smooth can be done. Just keep practicing and practicing and practicing.....

Tell your wife she'd be more comfy in a shorter skirt and tighter shirt.

Hey, what are friends for? Just tell her I'm only really concerned about her enjoyment. Being the sensitive fellow that I am.

I'm sure it takes some practice getting back into it if you haven't driven a manual in a while. A C6 is a very powerful car so of course you're going to get some wicked pull when those rear wheels bite into the road under hard acceleration, but if the whole car is jerking violently when you shift, then you probably need to work on your technique.

No doubt I need some more practice. I have less than a thousand miles on this one and I haven't had a manual in about 20 years.

The bad news: 20 years since driving a manual and Corvette power = rusty, jerky shifting

The good news: The only way to improve, is to drive, drive & drive :-)

Why dont you just take it easy while she's in the car? When she is out of the car, have your fun! But, yes you will get better. Just remember, the wives dont like getting the s*#t beat out of them while riding passenger. Take it easy on them.

Agreed! I only bring out the lead foot when I am alone and the music is up high... When the wife is in the car I try to abide by the speed limits.

A little gas while letting off the clutch will ease the shift
