I just bought a used 07 Coupe and have noticed a pretty high volumed rattle under the dashboard. During "normal" (read floating with surounding traffic) the dash is quiet, but when I really floor it and push the max out of it the rattle is loud when operating over 4000 rpm.
Now Inever owned a corvette before this one so I have nothing to compare with. I understand that the vehicle is put under stress when pushing it max so I definetly expect rettles and squeeks. I just wondered if there is others that have the same rattle under the dash or if theres something loose under mine?
Your driving a corvette but at the same time its a chevy... You will learn to live with these rattkes and squeaks as they are just customery to the brand... That being said i personally have never had rattles or noise from under my dash.... Now the roof we all have plenty of experience with.
ok. Thanks for the response. No mine is not in the steering column....neither from the front (engine department) or the roof.
Its like right in front of me in the dash.
Its very distinct (sound like if you left a tool or something under it).
How do you easiest take of the dash? I don't think the sound means big problems, but it gets on my nerves and I want to see if there is something loose in there.

Taking of the dash is no easy task. Do you have HUD? Mine rattles from time to time when the exhaust is really resonating. It literally could be anything... Unfortunately, No one is going to be able to possibly diagnose it without being in the car when it happens. I had a rattle in the passenger side of my car for the last 5 years before I flipped one day and just started ripping panels off (not literally) and found that it was a ball point pen rolling back and forth in a perfect little pocket behind the halo. The pen was from the original dealership I purchased the car from... Like I said it could be anything. You're going to have to get some panel poppers and screw drivers and start pulling it apart. My advice is search for the DIY install instructions for HUD. That will be your best guide.
From the factory, I think that under-dash stuff is very secure. Can't recall a thread about a rattle under the dashboard.
Some ideas:
-- I assume you've already checked the glovebox, center console compartments, passenger-side door pocket and anything else that's easy & obvious.
-- Buckle the passenger seat belt -- otherwise it can rattle against the plastic trim. (I know it's not under-dash, but it's easy to fix.)
-- Maybe a goofy kid pushed something into a vent and now it's rattling inside the HVAC plumbing.
-- Do you have an aftermarket radio? Was the RCDLR (remote control door lock receiver) module replaced (it's located under the dash & behind the emergency flasher)? Maybe there's something loose or improperly fastened in those areas.
-- If the HUD was replaced by a dealer... well, could be anything.
Anyway, whatever the cause, I'm guessing you'll eventually have to do as Seth suggests and disassemble stuff.
Good luck.
