Some real life tests...07 base v.s 11 GT
Did some running compairs between my 07 C6 6M and a friends 2011 mustang GT (stick) today. Nothing measured with electronics....just obvious experienced truth.
0-60: Both cars extremly close to each other. The first one to slip a little bit loose with about a half carlength.
1/4 mile....vette seemed to lose about a half carlength at around 3/4 of the track after that my vette picked up fast.
Any launches at speeds over 60 mph.....bye bye GT.

So did you clip him in the quarter?
Sounds like a fun experiment.

Hey I'm no pro driver.....just got my vette a coupple a weeks ago. I'm sure I will gain a lot as I grow into the car. The post isn't meant to be proof of either cars performance....just a little fun info of what took place in my life today. And a foot in the mouth of my bigmouthed friend .

My stock 07 c6 vet ran 12.80@110. My 2012 mustang ran 12.72@111 with about 10 degrees cooler weather. Both are automatics and no plans to mod the new mustang, The vet is now running 11.12@124. Both are great cars but the vet wins hands down in looks and performance.

And yes, I drive it so I can feel it. It's truly the closest thing I have owned that makes me "feel' the road (my bikes exempted).

Drifting
I'm assuming the Stang was a manual. Rear gears on the 5.0...3.31, 3.55 or 3.73 (3 possibilities, 3.31 standard unless optioned up)...can make a huge difference. But above 90/100 AERO makes a huge difference with the Vette the clear leader in that category.
Brembo brake package with the wider rims and stickier tires??? Again, a potential game changer. As not all 5.0s are equal.
Lots of variables within the 5.0 family.
Careful of weight arguments...different is probably about 180-200 and with some skinny kid in the 5.0 and some middle aged dentist pushing 250...you get the idea. I know one couple out here in Cali who love to boast about how "light" there vette is (C5) and thus much faster then mere Stangs, Challengers etc...the guy is a big boy at 6'3" and weights a little north of 300 while the little Mrs aint so little at about 225. They assume that their body weight has no effect on the car....hmmmm nope none other then adding 1/4 ton to it.
