It most likely is caused by differential rates of thermal expansion that allows the bolts to loosen. The main gasket is riveted to the pan, but there are four other individual gaskets that have the possibility to shift or even get pushed out if the pan bolts loosen.

My pan has been bone dry on every oil change up to the most recent one. Now I spotted some slight leakage, so I cleaned it and retorqued the bolts. It's been another 1,100 miles and I see no more leaks as of yesterday, so maybe I'm good for another 100,000 miles.

Reputable vendor dealership on here told me if my steering wheel lines up an alignment is not needed. They told me they don't like to mess around with adjustments on suspensions unless the steering wheel doesn't line up.

I have not heard of that one. I have had an alignment done a couple of times, never a problem.

Run from those guys!! What a bunch of BS.... Many times the steering wheel orientation needs to be adjusted after an alignment, but it has nothing to do with the need for an alignment.

thanks for that info. What happens if you continue to drive car that is not adjusted/needs alignment?
