c6 versus c5
curious about your thoughts comparing c6 and c5 [ also posted this in c5 gen. ] . thinking of selling our c2 and maybe buying c5 or c6 [ we have a c5 coupe] . thanks . . .peace
I like the C5, my wife likes the C6. We have a C6. I think they're both great cars and the C6 has grown on me. I've always liked the C6 interior over the C5 and the added power is a blessing but I like the C5 convertible and FRC body styles more.
I drive a C5 ('02) 6-speed Coupe, and my wife drives a C6 ('08) auto Coupe. The C5 has '04 Z06 shocks/sways, and the C6 has the F55 Magnetic suspension. To me the C5 feels more like a sports car. Don't know exactly how to describe it, but that it feels more "raw", and I can feel the road better. Although, I believe the C6 would probably out corner it on the "Sport" setting.
After you've test driven a few C6's (we test drove several including a Base, Z51, F55, and Z06), you may have the same feeling about the "feel" that I have. The LS3 is a beast, though!!!
I really like them both, but prefer the manual, so I may be biased towards the C5. But, honestly, they are both awesome cars and you can't go wrong with either...

there are a LOT of nice C5's out there but if you're going to stay bone stock, I'd say the C6 is the way to go just because it's more current with technology.

Good to know it's not just me. Had an '98 Vert auto with z06 shocks and sways, now have an '07 Vert with Magnetic ride. Both originally had Gy runcraps and now have Michelin Pilot Zp A/S which were a significant improvement. I too, feel the C5 handled much better than the C6. I'm going to replace the sways with Z51 bars and metal end links and hope it improves the cornering in either setting.
Both had the sport seat option with power and my wife Hates the seat in the C6 while she found the C5 to be comfortable. All this being said the C5 is now long in the tooth and although mine is only the LS2 the difference in power is awesome. I wouldn't go back, but you know the saying "when momma ain't happy" and she really hates the seating.

Just before I ordered my Corvette I test drove a C-5 and loved it.
C-5 has a better view up front so you could see the road better ahead of you
but I didn't care for the Rubbermaid interior in C-5.
At this time they were switching over to the new then C-6. I figured I still put in order and if I did not purchase C-6 they would have no problem selling it to someone else.
I like interior better on C-6 over the Rubbermaid C-5 interior plus the extra power on C-6 base LS2 was the equivalent very close to the last year of the C-5 2004 Z-06 at 405 HP.

Like others, I have owned and driven both. Both are great cars. The styling differences are self-explanatory and are buyers preference.
The C6, stock to stock, is a better car in my opinion. But it's not SO much better that one should discount buying a C5.
No matter which you would elect, do your self a huge favor and immediately equip it with something other than the OE Goodyear run-flats. They single-handedly ruin both cars in terms of ride quality, noise, handling, etc. I am partial to the Michelin PS2 ZP's but Bridgestone, Nitto and others all are great improvements over the OE tires.

Comparing which one to buy comes down to a lot of factors: how much you want to spend, what you're looking for, mileage, etc... I had a C5 and loved it, but my C6 is definitely an improvement in virtually every way.

When I asked my wife to look at the C6 compared to the C5 and tell me what she thought of the C6 she said "it looks muscular!" She couldn't care less about vettes so that was her basic interpretation of the looks.
Good luck with your search. You can't go wrong either way.

Although it does have a wide booty kit, with 345's out back. Maybe that's it.
