Isn't the purpose of the "Search" function to locate a thread where the topic of interest has already been discussed. Haven't numerous people been chastized for not doing a search. What, pray tell, is the point behind locking a thread if a current interest revives it?
Good points. I believe the mods are trying to balance your points against weeding out the hundreds (or thousands) of old posts to try and keep the boards current. The advice I have seen from them is start a new thread on your topic so everyone knows its of current interest again. You can cite the previous posts in your thread if folks need to look at the old stuff. As to searches, people are chastised sometimes not because they didn't drag old posts back up but because their question has been answered about every other day and with a quick search they wouldn't need to be starting a new thread at all.
To add to foremaw's respose. If you do a search, find a thread pertinent to your question, read it and all the responses and it answers your question, why do people feel the need to respond to the old thread with "I agree" etc to bring it back out of moth *****?

this ^^, I also think is a good point. the reason for "archives" is so one can find a thread that is relevant to their interest, not necessarily to call it up and start posting on the thread again. I do think it can be referenced in a new thread tho, such as quoting/posting the url to the thread that made clear how to solve a problem or give information. that way, it becomes current and potentially provides info for those who want to look through it, w/o starting the whole thread up again.

if you wandered over to the rules section you would read about the 45 day rule as well as the one about PMing questions such as this as opposed to starting a thread in the C6 section where it has no relevance. We also have a Help Section.
