I will be trading my C4 in about a year for a C6 and am starting my research. I have decided that I will probably be ending up with a base model somewhere around a 2006 model, and I will for sure get a manual transmission. I will use the car as my daily driver, and it will serve also as my autox car. I want to remain in the stock class. So what are the hot suspension upgrades? What springs? Brake upgrades?
NCCC autocross rules require you to have the original suspension part #s unless you replace everything (except shocks) to bring it up to a different factory package. In other words, you would not be legal to put just the Z51 sways on a base suspension, you need the Z51 springs, etc.
Usually, no one cares. But just get a car with the Z51 suspension and don't need to worry about legality. It's a good AX car.
SCCA rules may be different, but when I was AXing, the SCCA courses were usually very tight and more fun for a Miata than a Corvette.
If you get flush, the GS (2010 and later) is better for AX but runs in the same class as the Z06 and is at a disadvantage.
Get a stock z51. Mark the correct alignment settings and mark a couple degrees negative camber. You'll get more bang with the camber adjustment than anything else on a short/tight auto x.
