Default Dear Miss Manners...

What is the proper way to respond when someone (not in a Corvette) gives you a thumbs up? The first time or two I caught myself doing a thumbs up back. That didn't feel right so I have been smiling back and giving a wave.

Thumbs up or wave back - and a smile/head nod ought to do.

Raise your hand and close your thumb, index, ring and pinky fingers

......or you can do what I do and give a big smile and a hearty

I'll give them a thumbs up back if they are driving something I like or a car that they have obviously put a lot of work into.

Doesn't matter what kind of car or truck.

Otherwise it's a nod or a wave.

Always nice to be recognized driving a Vette.

Me, too. I gave the thumbs up to a guy in a Nissan GT-R earlier this evening (I initiated). I think it's about loving cars and loving driving. I've even done it with Mustangs and late model Camaro verts.

Respond in kind. If they give you a thumbs up why not return it. Seems fine to me. Remember there are two kinds of people. Those who drive Corvette and those who wish they could.

I see a "Thumbs up" as an appropriate acknowledgement of your appreciation to their initial compliment.

If I see them a second time, then I wave as in a friendly gesture, not a "Corvette" wave.

I have given many "Thumbs up" to lots of people on the road, mostly kids!!
