So I'm swapping out a couple of my interior pieces. Surround around instrument cluster for one and I'm unplugging everything. Now, car didn't have Heads up when I got it. In its place in the dash is a green hung that looks like a scotchbrite pad. When I take everything off I notice the HU buttons are wired up and are actual buttons. I take the scotchbrite pad off and a piece of weird plastic piece comes off with it and reveals this.
There's a piece of glass under that jagged part and what looks like a little lens?
Do you have a power telescoping steering wheel? Then your '05 has a HUD. (Look for 1SB on the glovebox sticker.)
Hard to tell from the photo, but I'm guessing the previous owner damaged the HUD unit. Might've been cleaning with a screwdriver or a mis-guided repair effort.
Since your HUD buttons are wired-up, it should be easy to see if the HUD works or not. Start the engine and press the '+' button to max brightness, then look for a green glow.
Do you want a functioning HUD? I bet you're handy enough to install a new HUD unit. About $300 from partstaxi.com or gmpartshouse.com. (You shouldn't need a complete kit, just the HUD unit.)
If that's glass,it has to be HUD because that's all that goes there.Whether it works or not is a whole other story.I can't tell what I'm looking at in that picture other then a jagged edge of something.
