Default dry rotting f1 supercar tires on low mileage 09

does anyone else have experience with dry rotting F1 super car tires? the car was purchased new n 09 and currently has 7k miles on these factory tires. they are already dry rotting. cracks are visible in the center channel tread valleys of the tire that i noticed today. would the warranty cover this sort of thing?

I would think so. Your new car also came with a tire warranty manual.

Is it actually dry rot? Some of my SUV tires will get something like that as it wears. If the cracks were on the sides - maybe.

its a little bit on the sides but i pulled front tires off today and noticed the cracks in the grooves. didnt think it would be considered normal. but who knows. my dealer likes to play games. just wanted to show up armed and educated if i pursue it.

The dealer does not warranty tires, the tire manufacturer does, take the car to a goodyear tire store and talk with them.

It's possible that your tires were two or three years old when they were put on. It would be interesting to see the build date. That would be good ammo when you went to the dealer for warranty. Later! Frank

you're probably right! thanks for the suggestions. i checked the goodyear sight. they will probably grant some type of pro-rated warranty which will end up costing a good chunk. the warranty is only for 12 months but after that its pro rated. its still better than paying for the full cost of 500 dollar tires.

I had the same cracking on my Goodyear runflats. I just drove them till they wore out. The cracks did not seem to go very deep.

IIRC, Wolfdogs once said that cracks in the tread grooves were an indication of defective manufacture.

Perhaps you can PM him for more info?

...you might want to consider Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZPs, for your '09 coupe, living in a northern climate.

check Tire Rack or Discount Tire.

And if you're going to invest this kind of money in tires, at least have the alignment checked
(despite the low mileage on the car).

"splitting" or "slits" in the grooves indicate a belt package separation. Can you get me some pics?....... this is not good and you can get manufacture compensation. This is a defect.
Groove cracking is unacceptable in Government testing for qualification standards.

Goodyear replaced my run flats under warranty based on % of tread wear. Had shoulder separation cracks. Already had 12K on them in 6 mos. Cost me $800 out of pocket. Discount Tire of TX handled everything.

Goodyear took tread measurements today and said it would be covered on a pro-rated scale which they will call Monday with. he said the tires have about 5/32's of tread. they were manufactured in august of 08. the guy said that the tires were covered by a three year warranty against cracking. i only have 6900 miles on them.
