I can't shift my 05 automatic sometimes after I stop and put it in park. If I
turn it off and restart it will shift. I'm thinking maybe reboot the computer. Would disconnecting the battery work?
Hey neighbor,
I just fixed my a6 shifter but I had a different problem than you have. The shifter for the a6 is about $229, I'm sure the a4 is similar and hopefully no more money.
I can swap one out in about an hr. If need be. I'd be glad to help if you need it!
Same thing happened to my A4. After I finally got it out, to me taking the console off is a major PITA, I just decided to cut the locking tab that the solenoid controls. Now the shifter works just like the one in my C3 (i.e. no lockout at all). This way the solenoid is still there and the computer thinks everything is the same as before.
I've got 50k on my 05 and its only "stuck in park" a couple of times--
I had read on the forum to put the car in accessory mode (motor off) and then move the shifter to neutral and hit start -- worked perfectly for me. I guess eventually the shifter has to be replaced though??
Ya, I don't get how they can charge so much. With no experience one can remove the console properly in 30min or less and swap the shifter in 5min and then put it back together in 30min.
For me the hardest part was the ****! Now I can remove a **** in less than a minute with no tools.
