I change mine when the oil life gets to 25%, just did my first on my new Vette, was at 5k on the odometer. Did the same thing on my two previous Vette's(25%), but my Z06 didn't quite make it to each 5k, so I changed it earlier.

2008 changed oil after 4 years and 4 months with 800 miles on the oil. Used oil analysis showed oil was fine with 80% of the additive remaining. It had the factory fill mobile 1 5w30. I will change the oil every year or 5K miles from now on. But I think this shows what the engine and oil will do.

I suspect the 1 year change is intended for people who never check their oil, their mileage, or the OLI, but can relate to a calendar.
