Default Force daytime running lights to stay ON?

It seems unlike the majority of the people here I actually like the look of the DRL's on my car. Is there any way to force just having them on? I know if I turn the stalk one click down it will light up the DRL's but also the back lights - and they are not as bright as usual. Not sure what this mode is called, but is it possible to just turn on nothing other than the DRL's? Thanks!

One click down are the running lights. They are the same that would be on with your head lights. The DRL's are on in the daytime when your headlight are off. Are you saying you want them as bright when your head lights are on?

I think I'm being confusing - I mean't if you take the ring and turn it down once to get the (parking lights?) I want to be able to run the DRL as bright as they would be during the day - when it's too dark for the sensor to do that itself. No exterior lights on except the DRL. Hopefully that makes more sense.

No, there's no way, short of rewiring something, to get the DRLs to be on when any other lamps are on or to get the DRLs to be on when it gets too dark outside.

I don't mean when any other lamps are on at the same time - I just want to I guess override the light sensor so I can run just the DRL's anytime I want. I'm guessing it's not possible though.. Thanks

The DRLs should be on anytime the other exterior lights are off.

If it's an auto trans, they go off when in Park, but come on when in Drive.

Not sure exactly what you are asking.

Then how come when a C6 comes up behind me at night, both the low beams and the amber DRL's are on? The DRL's are not on if the car is either in park or the emergency brake is on.

DRLs and the parking lights are not the same thing.

The DRLs are much brighter.

As you know when you start the vehicle there are no DRL's on. When you put it in gear (A6) the DRL's come on. When you turn the ring down the FOG lights come on and the DRL's dim down a notch. I'm sure that is what he is referring to. The same happens when you either manually turn on the low beams or they come on automatically. There is no way to override this feature. I don't know if there is a computer setting that can change that. IMO not worth the effort.

I'm starting to wonder why the o/p just doesn't leave the the switch in the auto on position. Then his DRL turn on when the car does with the exceptions mentioned as regards the A6.

You would have to have a GM dealership upload change into a Tech2.

I'm not clear on this either. There are two times when you can drive...day and night. During the day, the DRLs are on automatically, so you don't need to do anything to get the look you want. During the night, it is too dark to drive with only the DRLs on, so the headlights and parking lights come on automatically. Done and done.

I believe the OP is asking if the DRL's can be manually turned on. Don't think so, as the DRL's only work when the switch is in the auto position. And in that position, the headlights will automatically come on if the car senses it's dark enough to use the headlights.

I'm thinking he doesn't understand that when the stalk switch is in "AUTO" you don't have to do anything for the DRL's to come on in the daytime.

The DRL's are also the turn signals and there is no reason to have them lit up bright at night when the headlights are already on.

The parking lights can be turned on manually using the stalk (DRL's will go off) and they will also come when you use the stalk switches to turn on the headlights and/or fog lights, day or night.

The DRL's go off and the parking lights come on with the headlights in "AUTO" when the dash sensor thinks it's dark.

If you really want the DRL's on all the time and nothing else, day or night, rig up a flashlight to shine on the dash sensor.

You can't just unplug it because it's part of the HVAC (it's also the 'sunload sensor').

Okay, that's probably the answer. I just know that the amber lights are on when the headlights are on. I didn't measure the brightness of the car behind me to determine if they were DRL's or parking lights..

I don't understand why the DRL/parking lights should be on at all when the headlights are on. If another car/driver can't see you coming with your headlights on, are the dimmer parking lights also being on going to make a difference?

You've posted what appears to be a C7 question in the C6 Forum. If you have a C6 you can change the DRL's from filament bulbs to LED's. When you do that you will need load resistors. The colors are as follows depending on the LED's you get. White DRL. Directional amber followed by off followed by amber and then back to white when turn is completed or white, amber, white, amber until completed. If you have a C7 that is a whole different game.

WOW! I must start double checking the dates before responding.
I did delete my post with some useful info, because the original OP did not come back until 4 years later to say he gave up
