Has anyone ever had any type of rust problem with a C6 Vette? I don't mean minor surface rust I'm talkin rust that caused a problem with the Vette. I know in some states for snow removal they use that new salt on steriods stuff that will eat most cars. Just wondering since C6's don't have a lot of exposed metal if anyone has had this type of problem? Reason why I ask is dealer tried to sell me a rust proventative package.
Look - anything that the dealer tries to sell you after the deal is done is nothing but pure profit for them. Tire/wheel warranty, extended warranty, paint protection, etc. is all crap.
Buying a "rust warranty" on a plastic bodied car has got to rank up there as one of the stupidest things that I have ever heard.
Actually, the humid and often-salty air in Hawaii would be a good breeding ground for rust.
Obviously, the body won't rust. The aluminum suspension pieces may corrode slightly but they won't actually rust. The frame is a possible problem, but the factory dipped coating is said to be pretty good unless it gets scraped off. The most annoying issue might be all the little screws and other small steel parts that will rust.
We drove our C5 through five salt-encrusted Chicago winters, the body and the underside looked like any other Corvette when we traded it. The frame will probably have rust problems in 20 years instead of 40 years, but I let someone else worry about it.
You can do the same process if you're worried about the fiberglass/smc car,(or whatever that stuff is called ) .All for about 20 bucks.I'd put a lot of wax on the car though to protect you from the salt air.
I had a rust problem just in the last few days. Changing brake pads and one of the guide pins was rusted in place inside one of the caliper brackets. Nothing I tried would get it out and I tried everything. Had to replace the bracket.

Rust proofing would do nothing for that, they don't spray brake parts for obvious reasons.
No, the Corvette does not need to be rust proofed. I don't think you plan on driving in salt water, so you should be fine! But if you do decide to drive in the sea once in a while...
After all the jokes.....this is a valid concern. When I was stationed there my motor bike had a surface rust problem you had to keep after. Of course on the metal parts.
