When I drive my DD (affectionately called the "POS") I will usually park next to a 'vette even if its parked somewhat far out and protect one at least one side of the car. So don't get upset if you see an old black POS parked next to you.
😂😂😂 that’s what I was thinking... people park next to nice cars saying... they take care of their car... he won’t swing the door open and risk denying their car!!! 😂😂😂
I try to park with the driver door next to a curb because it is easier to get out when the door can be opened fully. This is not a hard rule with me
and I will park just about anywhere. When I park away from other cars even my wife notices that people seem to want to park next to me when
there are plenty of available spaces. I don't get angry, I figure they want to get a close look at a nice car.
Great topic, it’s really interesting to hear all the different takes on this. Been through it with a few cars I’ve cherished enough to daily drive that necessitated parking lots. I’ve pretty much have had the same philosophy for them all.
In my Vette (a black car in North Central Florida) I look first for a edge island spot under a tree as close to the venue as possible. This does three things imo; first it provides shade, second it closes off at least one side to neighboring doors, and third it discourages (at least a little) tampering with it by virtue of being in a more visible high traffic area. If that’s not available I look to park next to something that’s well taken care of.
I have no bones about profiling other driver’s technique (or lack thereof) and the condition of their vehicle. On the road or in a parking lot the dirty, bumper stickered, body panel falling off, fuzzy thing hanging from the rear view mirror crapbox is to never be trusted. I won’t follow them to close, I won’t let them ride my bumper or alongside too long, and I won’t park next to them when they’re sideways in a spot.
I love the fact that the Vette is SMC. I don’t worry at all about door dings. I worry more about someone trying to steal it.
I do all shopping via internet now. Only go to the doctor in my car. All driving is fun driving. If I park in a lot it the farthest from the store. I have even parked in another lot or not stopped at all if the parking is dubious.
