Default Engine Rebuild Update

Well, the boys at LG have NZYCAR torn apart pretty good. Diagnosis: weak and broken valve springs, chewed up cam lobes, completely spent lifter.

Good news is to go with the new X3 cam, lifters, springs, and oil pump, are new ported and polished LS3 heads with a nice 5-angle valve job and a complementary port job on the intake. A set of B&B Bullets are also going on for good measure - figured the Noize should go to a new level.

Should be all done in the next two weeks. Can't wait for the dyno numbers !

Yikes! All that metal had to go somewhere. The cylinders, pistons and crank are OK?

Bearings and block seem to be fine. Pretty sure just clean up of the pistons.

So far, so good

Not a mechanic by any means but what exactly "eats" up the cam lobes like that and would there be any indicators the cam is getting eat up like that?

I had a G6X3 cam and dual valve springs. The springs are good for about 25,000 miles with a cam like the X3. I waited too long to change the springs.

Thanks nzycar. I just broke a spring(singles) in my cammed car and it dropped a valve through the piston. No one told me you should do dual springs as a safety measure and certainly never said I should change them out after so many miles. Live and learn. Im getting a new ls2 extreme crate engine that has the g5x3 cam. Needless to say I told them I wanted patriot dual gold springs and this time I will be keeping track of the miles and changing every 20k.

You are lucky it did not damage the motor and seems like a good rebuild plan you have
