Default air filter replace - what am I missing?

I can't believe I'm asking where the six screws are to remove the stock air filter. Time for a K&N.

Without a clue as to which model or year C6 you are driving, I don't know. But on my Z06, the six screws are located at the mouth of the air breather.

PS-it is necessary to remove the air breather to access the screws and filter element.

As said above, you will need a regular screwdriver to remove the intake tract and a torx bit in order to remove the filter cage.

Sorry it's a 2008 LS3. Do I take the air bridge off to get at the bottom of the filter holder?

Yep. You can loosen the rearward flex coupling clamp and pull the coupling off and then pull upward to pull the air box loose from the rubber grommets. Then rotate the air box 180 degrees toward the drivers side, so you don't have to remove the MAF electrical connector. That will allow you to access the six screws to remove the retainer. The pull the filter element out.

BTW-the stock air filter(Donaldson PowerCore) is the best filtering element available and will last 45,000 miles under normal usage. The filter element in your LS3 is the same element that is used in the 505 HP Z06, and a slightly different one(flows a little better) is used on the 638 HP ZR1.

Got it. I was trying to move everything w/o taking off the bellows. Thanks. Kinda sounds like I should send back my K&N?

Great info Joe, I dont buy into the powercore hyp though. I have the high flow stock filter and with the Airraid I made 7rwhp more than the stock setup using a Z06 bridge.
