Default Wheel damage?

I read in another posting someone mention that through his experience installing new tires on chrome GS wheels almost always results in wheel damage? I hope this isn't the case when I go to replace my GY gen II's with some other run flats. Is this the experience with other forum members, are alot of GS chrome wheels damaged when installing new tires?

I have had lots of minor blemishes on different kinds of wheels and it can happen very easily. Your best bet is to go to a tire shop that specializes in Corvette's or high tech expensive cars. You will pay more money but it's worth it in the long run. There are lots of places out there that do excellant work. Stay away from places that have part timers working and look like they don't know what they are doing.

Look at the machine and the tools they plan on using ... If it is a steel pry bar RUN ... They will bend your rim and peel the chrome.

Search out a shop that utilizes a Hunter Auto 34 Touchless tire machine - and that has lots of experience handling 18, 19, 20 and 20in + wheels.

The time investment up front is well worth unmarred wheels later

If you are going back to the Goodyear runflats go to a Goodyear place. Meet the manager nad have him inspect your rims. Take pictures etc. Have the manager over see the job. If they screw it up have them buy you new rims.

a) why not put your town in your profile? b) call Les Stanford; they should know how to do it. ask Mike MacDonald if he's still Serv. Mgr. there. c) call your local Dearborn Discount Tire and ask; lots of people have good luck with this chain elsewhere. d) call your local Corv. club prez and ask where members get good wheel service, specifically. e) look up major wheel/tire sources like Belle Tire; ask them (one of the first mail order tire places that I remember using).

my local shop has one and when he did my'12 coupe i couldn't believe it. there is not one piece of metal that touches any part of the rim during mount/dismount. every part is made of rubber and the machine works effortlessly. charged me 40$ each tire with roadforce balance and it came out perfect.

I had my chrome GS wheel changed at local Goodyear store. They had their best guy do it. Not one single mark or scratch!!!
