Just got my car back friday after 2 1/2 months, this week should be for finishing some things with the car. one thing I'm about to do, possibly as early as tomorrow, is changing the sound. These are the options I would like an answer for from people who have done it, not just answering without experience.
Will gutting the cats give me more sound without the sacrifice of power? I will have the car codes tuned out so that isn't an issue. Some say there is a smell, some say there isn't.
If I get the cats gutted, should I have a test pipe run through it, and what is a test pipe?
Or should I get the electric cut-outs from dhm?
I have a CAI and magnaflow mufflers along with a custom tune, 2005 z51 auto. The goal is for even more sound and I'd like to know which option will provide more sound without adding headers.
Guess I'm going to gut the cats. Headers have too many issues with leaks and so forth initially and they are not very reliable. Hopefully this gives me some more sound.

Did you do a search for exhaust mods, I know there is a very detailed thread out there on how to drill holes in the mufflers to get more sound, don't really think gutting the cats is a very good idea.
It's for the stock muffler, so I don't think it really applies to your situation.
Sorry you haven't received many responses, but I don't remember many threads where people have gutted the cats... Removed them, yet, but only one or two that I can remember.
Did the cat thing yesterday. Man the sound is incredible! I only had one chance to get on it and that was when I had to get in traffic quickly. In the mid range I felt this big boost, shocked the hell out of me! Also, no smell unless you've been on the gas pedal and a wind hits from behind, but even then it's for about 5 seconds with the window down. If I had an aftermarket cam, might be another story and its those times that people smell it when they have headers and it's probably the headers leaking which they are known to do. For me this was a great choice, thousands less then having headers or a cam installed.
Ok folks...hope everyone enjoyed their Federal Holiday.....now if you would like to enjoy an unscheduled Corvetteforum Holiday keep bickering and name calling. If you can't discuss it civilly then perhaps its best you don't discuss it at all.
Lol thanks for cleaning things up pewter! It was getting out of hand.

sometimes its best to start a different thread than express your views in another members thread as things will go off course. I am sure that wasn't the intent of the member but it seems things sometimes take on a life of their own
Keep in mind that disagreement is expected but hostility, name calling etc. will not be tolerated.
i think its possible to get high flow cats instead of gutting them. in most cases gutting them can get you trouble if your state has a smog inspection. i agree with you on a great sound its a must for this car. i got corsa sports with the help of richie fazio and im glad i listened to him. i didnt want my corvette sounding like a muscle car or a pickup truck so corsa was just the thing to give me the best sound without losing my cars american character
