On the thruway yesterday cruising in traffic at 63mph. I'm in the center lane of a three lane highway,my 9500ix starts going crazy Ka band,a truck in right lane with a trailer loaded with equipment cuts in front of me,I hit the brakes and want to get in left lane to pass him but I know the cops are ahead, just then the truck hits a bump and stones start flying off the trailer, with no where to go I see a stone bounce off the roadway and just hear it hit the front of car, finally get around the guy and could see the cop had someone pulled over,I got off the highway and could see the small crack at the bottom of the windshield near the dash, thankfully. I called my AAA insurance when I got home and they made an appointment at Safelite to get it repaired tomorrow afternoon. No cost to me,I have full glass coverage,I guess they have a cool technique for repair. I'll post the after repair pic tomorrow night.

I'm hoping mine gets cracked so I can replace it. Chips, scratches, and it looks like a 50 yr old windshield when driving into the sun, ('08 w/17K miles). I'm not sure if it's a bad design or soft glass. The C6 windshields are terrible.

Gee, the last I knew glass is glass. Let's face it folks we are driving in a land of utility vehicles, pick-up trucks, SUVs, dump trucks and semi's which fling rocks, sand and debris. Low slung sports cars, or anyone who gives a crap about their vehicles don't stand a chance. But please don't blame it on the design of the C6; all cars that are only 4 foot 1 inch tall have the same problem.

That`s kind of funny, that c6, or whatever, windshields are cheap or soft. I had a rock hit driver eye height at 60mph that I thought would put my lights out. Silver dollar size circular crack but the glass held, and I don`t want to change the windshield from factory unless I have to. I have had sand blasted windshields before, but mostly from aggressively driving too close behind obvious sandblasters. I recall early Lotus Elite windshields cracking from leaning on them with the palm of your hand. That was weak (and yard long almost horizontal glass). I don`t know, but maybe we are expecting too much sometimes and defaulting to conspiracy without any real thought.
By the way, I have HUD and I would insist on the correct glass for this. I am guessing that whoever suggested that this is not necessary won`t stand behind your resale value, but that is your call. Safelite seems to have a lock on this market. I have had six windshields done by them over the years. Outcome highly dependent upon tech and application. I am concerned that a vert is done right for instance
with racking stresses they see.
Got it fixed today, took 1/2 hour and is guaranteed for life. Not invisible but it will not grow into a large crack either, down low enough so you can't see the mark left while driving.Flying stones off trailers will get you every time, steer clear!!
I had one almost in the exact same spot. Also had it repaired and it came out well. I also had to repair a scratch in the paint on the hood where the rock hit first before it hit the windshield.

Very true. I had a new windshield installed on my Camaro after an encounter with a retread. The first guy got it 95% right. After I made the necessary calls, the second guy came out and finished the job. I had a piece of weatherstripping hanging down!

Safelite does an amazing job on repairs. They did one on my C5 convert and I had a really hard time finding the repair when they were done. Mine was directly above the HUD and it pretty much disappeared when they were done.

I totally agree, my 2005 looked great for 36000 miles, my 2009 with 18,000 miles looks like above. Guess they went to cheaper glass, you know like no under hood light and no pull down on the rear hatch??!! Even with those massive savings, well you know what happened, haha--eddie
