Default Interesting ONSTAR retention program

I had the original Onstar with the the new car. It was extended for 2 extra months because they had really fouled up. Expired on 5/16/11.

Was getting the usual renewal calls and asked if they would just call me the first week in May. Never heard anything.

Today I get an email indicating my subscription had expired. Called and asked for the renewal rates and was given the full blown costs. I indicated that was too expensive. Rep said "ok" and hung up.

Coming from a sales/marketing background, not quite sure I have ever seen anything like it. Business must be fantastic for Onstar.

For the record I would renewed for the "lowered" basic program.

if you have ever given them your credit card number, you better watch it, because you already have been renewed more than likely (automaticly)

They are one of the worst to deal with, not worth going into my experience with them I will just leave it at glad I no longer have to deal with them.

If they cut their spam in half they could give the service away....and I still wouldn't use it.

This ONLY happens if you forget to tell them not to store your CC on file!

If you wheel and deal with them you can get a half decent deal. I like the ability to track and shut dow n the car if it's stolen. Also if you lock your keys in the car (like another thread just did with his ZO6) they can open the car for you. It's a matter of whether you want the service or not. Most services are a pain to get rid off when you want to.

PEOPLE ... do you not understand that OnStar tracks every mile you drive, every speed, every place you stop, every place you park? They store it ALL in a database and can sell it to anyone who wants it (LEO, insurance, employer, wife, etc.). No one is going to steal my car, and I'll never get locked out, just saying ...

That's some exciting data, especially for my drive to and from work. Enjoy your data.

OnStar..Too expensive for what is offered. Poor customer service. It has expired on every GM vehicle I have ever owned and will continue to until they offer a decent price for what they offer.

And OnStar seems to be featured in any GM ad you see, hear or read. What is going on with them? Lotsa complaints . . .

must be in the minority...I have had very good luck with them, and I get a discount on my car insurance for having it too. Do you belive it..when I had my 08... I went 155 mph and they never said a word...never called the cops on me and never informed my insurance company...just saying...I must be one of the lucky ones. The only ones that I have had trouble with ..the infamous XM radio...now try to cancel them....lol.

Only reason I would have renewed was the stolen vehicle help. Like I said I would have renewed for the"better" price.

I never gave them my CC, thanks CF for the warning.

I think the strange thing is that they never tried to even save my business. Maybe the "stored info" with my driving habits scared them off.

XM radio cancels my service at least once a month for no reason. They always tell me it was in "error".

They can do this even if you are not "subscribed".

You can tell this is true because if the tracking fails, that's when they send out the black helicopters.

My cc on file w/Onstar expired. My phones was ringing off the hook. Lots of 'bills' in the mail and requests for me to renew/update my cc info.

I finally called them. It was nearly two months later. Come to find out, they left it 'on'. I did not know this. I suspected it was off.

I renewed. I have the Vette and my Yukon, both w/Onstar. they gave me a price until the renewal in Jan 13. it's 26 + tax/month for both, and then it will rise to 30/mo I think. Still worth it to me in case I lock my keys in Yukon, which I have done twice in 8 years. (my Yukon is a '04). What I've paid in Onstar charges would have paid locksmith more times than two for sure. But, it is nice to know I can push that button if I have any issues.
