There is a small town festival coming up in my wife's home town June 9th & June 10th and one of the organizers asked if they could use my Vette in the parade on Saturday.
I thought it would be kind of fun so I said sure, and asked what time I needed to be lined up on Saturday. The guys turns around and says we'll need the car for our driver about 10:00 AM.
"Driver?, what driver?" I said. He says the high school senior selected as grand Marshall will drive the car himself. I said "Huh...... what, I'm not letting a kid, not mention a kid I don't know drive my car", he can drive in the car with me".
This guy then says that won't work because he'll have cases of ice-cream bars he'll be handing out to the kids on the parade root.
This time I say "excuse me, you're going to have what in my car with this teenage kid I've never met driving my car?" Hoping when he repeated it he would hear how crazy that sounded, but he just repeated it and said could they use it?
I end up saying no, he was pretty ticked, my wife thought I should have since its a town where everyone knows everyone but I just couldn't get past the part about the teenage boy I don't know with a car with 436HP and ice-cream in my car.
In my heart I know I'm right, it's just the guilt trip from my wife and pissing this guy off that bugs me a bit.
Just needed to double check with folks that understand and are passionate about their cars if we were on the same wave length or was I missing something.

Sounds like we are in sync. Thanks again
Forward the thread to him and your wife. I guess to him it's just someones car, but I bet if it were "His" car he wouldn't do it.

Hmmmm - we (my wife and I) love our Vette and do a lot for our school system and the kids (on the school board) but there is no way my wife let alone me would give our car to a senior to hand out ice cream in a parade. In fact I would not even have to say anything - she would handle it.
I think it's really presumptious of them to ask you to effectively "give your car away", but, then again....it's them asking you "to pay your fair share". Good for you saying NO.
Agree with you 110%. You did the right thing IMHO no question. If the guy doesn't understand your position too bad he just doesn't understand what Corvette is all about to most of us. Don't give it another thought.

Ask your wife if she would mind having a bunch of 5 year olds over to make mud pies in her kitchen. What could go wrong?
yeah a kid yopu don't know driving a car he has never driven handing out ice cream to kids who run up to and lean in the car....what could possibly go wrong?
No way, the request itself is just plain supid with so many things that could go wrong. Can not believe they were serious and actually had the nerve to ask.

You're right. The organizer just doesn't get it. I'm not a big fan of Corvettes in parades even if I was driving it. Certainly not with a kid you don't know passing out ice cream
