The Navigation in my 2005 is running S...L...O...W! If it were the computer I'm typing on, I'd blow it away and reload the software. My question is this: Is there a dealer or after market SW package available and can the system be "Rebooted" or do I need a new unit? Maps load very slowly, the little tracking arrow jumps after being frozen for 5 minutes, etc.
I'm pricing used units on Ebay for $700-$800 which beats the dealer price by at least $1,000. Also ordered the 6.0 version map DVD as mine is version 1.0 to see if that might help, but it appears to me the system just needs to be blown away and SW reloaded if that's an option.
You can get an awesome aftermarket head unit with nav for the numbers you are quoting. Adapters available so that almost everything works too. You would only lose the connection to the HUD. Just a suggestion.
Try dis-connecting the battery for a while . You will have to index the windows but it might fix the problem!!!

Two good suggestions above.
Our factory nav isn't lightning fast, but it's as fast as the navs in our other two cars (non-GM). Every now and then, any one of them will take 15 seconds to do something that normally takes 2 seconds. No idea why, but it's only an occasional thing.
Great suggestions that keep the wallet full. By cleaning the disk, do you mean the DVD or head unit? Is there a "Cleaning DVD"?
The DVD. There are cleaning disks that are supposed to wipe any dust off that may be on the laser lens but I would not risk putting one of those in there and having it get stuck.
I would try cleaning the disk before I spent any money.
100% and I might even try copying the disk and using the copy if that didn't work. Clean the laser lense also. Slowdown can be caused by excessive seeking by the laser, caused by either dirty disc or lense.
Do both suggestions...clean the disk and disconnect/reconnect the battery. That will force a reboot of the NAV. Yes, you will need to re-index the windows but that's simple.
