Lucky you weren't in a vert with the top up. You would have had one hell of a time crawling out of that. Guess you could have cut the top or broken a window.
Knowing about the release lever could save your life. Anyone that gets into my car is told about that lever. Suppose you got caught in a flood and the battery dies? We would be reading about some poor Corvette owner on these boards and it would not be funny.

Yes, of course, we should not be so mirthful.
Anyway . . . I think AARP or AAA, or some organization was offering hammers specifically designed to break windows, from the inside, of course. In case of rollover, or flood, or a collision which jams the doors. If the windows don't go down, break out that hammer, and break out the window.
You're going to feel really dumb when you go look at the floor to the left of your seat and see the door release lever that is there for that very reason
I have predicted since the C6 came out and we started getting this same complaint, that one day someone will cook and die in their car. Luckily so far I've been proven wrong.
As of this posting 16 replies who knew the answer and 55 who viewed....I suspect the other 39 of us were also wondering how the heck to get out of our cars when the battery fails......hah, you not alone
And this guy, who is glad he saw this before the situation came up.
Over the years I've seen a lot of these same threads here. I understand not everybody buys these brand new, but if so, the sales people are supposed to go over the car in detail, including these steps as part of the delivery process.

Are dealers simply not doing this?
Sadly, there are some dealers that don't know either.
ok, lets just say you are the guy or gal who never reads the instructions but didn't just once while vacuuming the car you wonder WTF that lever was for?
BTW, there is also a door release in the hatch as well as one for the fuel door....IIRC..I am positive about the fuel door but my Z isn't here at the moment to confirm the door release
