Default AC Question

Dumb question. Anyone have the recirculation light go off on it's own after a specific amount of time? Seems like it want fresh air. Lol

Mine goes on & off all the time, at what I assume are cycle-intervals. Appears
completely normal. I find I just leave the A/C set to auto, and only adjust the
temperature settings at times. Rarely need to push the "recric" on or off.

That's what mine does, goes on and off when it wants to.

I've never pushed the "recirc" button.

I've never read the owner's manual for this point on the Vette but in other cars it cycles to chill cool air (rather than hot air) to keep the car cooler inside. You don't want to run recirc all the time because it traps the humidity from exhaled air and fogs the windows.

I think when it senses it's really hot inside, it turns recirculate on, then when it cools down, it turns it off. If you turn recirculate on manually, it stays on. Until the next start.

It is supposed to work that way when in auto mode.

Sensors
The solar sensor on the vehicle monitors the solar heat and uses the information to maintain the selected temperature when operating in AUTO mode by automatically adjusting the temperature, fan speed and air delivery system. The system may also supply cooler air to the side of the vehicle facing the sun. The recirculation mode will also be activated, as necessary. Do not cover the solar sensor located on the top of
the instrument panel near the windshield or the system will not work properly.

And it's not just vettes that do this, every GM product with "auto" AC has controlled the recirc. similarly as described by the above posts.

When in "Auto" mode is it normal for it to stay on high all the time?

eventually the blower fan speed lowers by itself, as the cooler temp. inside the car is attained...

I always keep mine in manual mode. It will start in Recirc mode and then turn off to fresh air mode after cooling off even in Manual mode.

I wish there was some way to calm down my hyperactive A/C system. When I first start the car on a 75' day and the car is 80' inside, the system goes to recirc which it doesn't need (since outside air is cooler anyway) and the fan starts roaring like a jet engine.

Punching the Recirc button to go back to outside air also turns the fan down to something reasonable, but a minor PITA every time.

If only it would just relax and ease into the higher settings over a minute or so.

I don't let it stay on it "Auto" mode long enough as I turn it down before that.

It's supposed to. As the temp inside gets to where you have it set, the a/c will adjust. The recirculate mode helps the car cool down more quickly.
Then the fan speed will adjust as well.
All of this is also calculated with the outside temps.

the way to modify the a/c and an answer to the OP's question is, do it manually. the reason it goes to recirc on and off is because the "auto" button has been pushed. I use a/c manually, set which side gets it, use on/off for a/c and have to set fan speeds manually, and actual temp desired. I've seldom used recirc simply because either the windows are open, or the top is down. But if the top were up, windows closed, it'd take some good reason to have recirc engaged.

Your answer is correct.

But my system works so well in Auto (better than any other car I've driven) that I prefer to leave it that way. Aside from the Recirc switch, I seldom touch anything.

Life is really tough around here...

ive never used auto with any of my vehicles, i tend to have the windows open and if im hot enough to run the AC then i want it as cold as possible and will control the fan. Although the AC system and cooling aspects in the corvette is the best in any car ive owned, i rarely have it higher than the lowest fan setting.

sometimes when I start my car after it has been parked for a while it recirculates the air until it cools down a bit and then it takes the fresh air from outside - personally I would like to to permanently recirculate because I have bad allergies (and please don't try to tell me that the pollen filter will block out all allergens)

Does that pollen filter help your allergies?
