Default Explain this one!

My sliver bullet is a 2005 coupe with the Z51 package. I joke with my friends that my car is like Biff's on back to the future, no one can start the car but me! LOL. It does not happen all the time but once in a while I will get in the car and it will flat out not start. Everything comes on but it will not even attempt to turn over. I know your first thought is going to be the battery but the battery in there now is less than 2 years old and I have had this same situation over the last 2 batteries. So when it will not start I know exactly what to do. I pop the hood, detach the negative terminal from the battery, wait a few seconds, re-attach it so everything in the car resets, close the hood hop in and she fires right up each and everytime!! So it makes me think that some of you who have had your car not start and thought it was the battery could try the same thing. And whe I say it starts right up everytime I mean 100% of the time. So has anyone else experienced this? Any explanations?

Is your car a manual shift? If so, it could be the steering column lock starting to fail. Try turning the steering wheel back and forth the next time this happens and see if the car starts.

When the car won't start, have you checked for any messages on the DIC like "Press Brake to Start", or "Depress Clutch"?

The battery cable connection onto the starter can also become loose, corroded, or fried; often gives intermittant starting.

Your car is female.

/thread.

Sometimes you have to play under the hood for a few minutes before you can go all the way. Gotta get her in the mood.

How is your starter? Just curious. I had a car like that and at random it wouldnt start.

Definitely check this out. Had the same issues in my '05. When it finally fails you will not be able to start it at all!

Default cable

If manipulation of the cable is what fixes it, and the connection is clean. It could be the cable itself. Try a new one.

Amateur opinion, not a mechanic by far.

Could it also be something with the main CPU box, because of disconnecting the battery cable, that forces the main box to go through a complete reboot.

That should give a "No Fobs Detected" message on the DIC.

Pushing a few buttons to get the juice flowing to warm up a cold battery works too.

I do periodically get the service column lock message so that could have something to do with it. I know there have been a million threads on that I will have to go back and refresh my memory. Wasnt that part of the recall where the dealer checked to see if certain wires were tied together or what that a seperate issue? Because I took my car in for that 2 years ago and the dealership said everything was fine on mine.

Oh, and I changed the battery out in the FOB about a month ago, I am usually pretty paranoid about that one so I change it our probably more that I should. But I will say the slot in the glove compartment where you can put the FOB when the juice is running low...absolutely works!

Make sure your cellphone isn't near your FOB. I had a similar issue and others here suggested this as the problem. Haven't had a glitch since I started making sure that my phone was nowhere near my FOB. Good luck.
