Default Shorter shifter???

What would be the best way to shorten the shifter on my 05 C6 T56? I dont want a short throw shifter, I just want to shorten the shifter. I would like to use the factory **** as well.

I searched but only came up with info on short throw shifters.

You've sort of taken everyone's suggesstions out of play in your post. The two ways to get a shorter (or perceived shorter) throw from the OEM shifter is to install an aftermarket short throw like a Hurst or MGW shifter or to change out the OEM **** to a Hurst style ball type ****.

In order to keep the OEM **** and not change the shifter but still result in a shorter throw is going to require cutting the shaft on your OEM and then drilling and tapping in a new screw hole for the OEM ****. I don't know of any other options for what you want to do.

if you dont want a aftermarket shifter and you want to use your stock ****, then your only option is to cut the stock shifter down shorter

there is no other way to do it , you could get a padded armrest for the center console so it will be taller, making the shifter seem shorter

I just want to lower the shifter **** height relative to the center console lid. I thought about the cover, that is my backup plan.

Will a short thow shifter do this even if I use the oem ****?

the aftermarket short throw shifters with the stock **** are very close to the same height as the stock set-up.

The easiest way to do what you want is change the **** or change the center console cushion

Shortens that crazy-long throw of the OEM set-up and feels good while doing it. One of the best things I've done to my Vette.

this is the only reasonable option if you insist on using the stock ****.

this is a WHOLE lot easier. but i'm an old school round **** kind of guy anyway. the lower shifting height is just a bonus.
and some words of wisdom if you go this route: be sure you know what you're buying. some vendors have universal fit ***** with plastic inserts to fit different shifters. the good ones have an o-ring for the boot and fasten just like the oem.

Hey BrooklynC5 - This is exactly the setup I am thinking of purchasing. Can you give me a short review? What did you not like about the stock setup and what you like/don't like with this ball **** atop the MGW?

The "notchy-ness" of the standard shifter drives me a little crazy. My prior manual gearbox was a Miata (yeah, I know) that had a buttery smooth gearbox - wonderful around town and on the track.

well he did say he didn't want a short throw shifter, he just wanted to shorten the shift lever. so your option, which i would do (aftermarket shifter) was not a desireable option. hence the two options are: shortened stock shifter, or use a **** that effectively lowers your grip height without having to change shifters.
