Default Temp Registration

Noticed as I cleaned the Vette this a.m. that my temp registration has expired and plates aren't in yet at the dealer. Hoping it won't create any issues on our trip this weekend. Registration was issued here in MN for 21 days on June 5th, did the museum delivery in BG on the 14th and expired on the 26th. As I recall from the few other states I've bought a new car in they were 30 day windows to get the plates issued.

Oh well, I hope the LEO's will be understanding if one decides to check me out closer.

Be sure you have the paperwork showing that the plates were applied for.

Why won't the dealer give you another temp tag?

My temp tag (15 day from MI) expired while I was still traveling on the East coast. I called the dealer and they overnighted me another one to SC. Another two weeks passed before I made it back to AZ. Then went to the AZ DMV with the wrong paperwork and they issued me a 90 day tag for only $3. Sure wish I could have bought 4 of those each year.

BTW, most LEO's are pretty understanding about these governmental issues.

We drove our then-new 2001 down to Florida and back with Illinois temp registration that you couldn't read from ten feet away.

We drove our then-new 2009 to Montana and zig-zagged back home with North Carolina temp registraion that was both expired and illegible.

In both cases, never got a second look from the law.
But, no guarantees...

As others said, be sure you have the paperwork showing the plates were properly applied for.
If you have the paperwork, 90% of LEO will let you go.
If you don't have the paperework, 90% of LEO will ticket you.

It's expired so you do run the risk of getting a ticket, many tickets, towed impounded or whatever else they might wanna do.You're illegal as far as anybody who wasn't with you when you did the deal knows and that's that. You could be any shmo driving down the road with a nicely made up story as far as any cop might know.So watch your butt out there.
