Default Window Gremlin

So the other day I got in my car and when I shut the door the window didn't auto roll up. I went to open the door to shut it harder (thinking that maybe I didn't shut it all the way) and the door wouldn't unlock/open. I had to use the manual door open lever on the floor. Huh? Kinda weird I thought. So I slammed the door shut and the same thing happened again. No window roll up and door won't open. I figured it might by a glitch and will go away. No such luck, happens everytime now. Good news is that it does auto roll up after about 5 minutes of driving and then the door open button works too.

I want suggestions so let me tell you what I've already tried...unplugging the (new) battery for 15+ minutes, no luck. Trying to reset the windows by holding the window button up for like a minute, no luck. Slamming the door shut a million times in a row, no luck.

Help...

Search the Forum for door pad service or cleaning. It's simple and it works.

If he has the problem from both outside and inside, doesn't that rule out a problem with just the door pad?

Yes it is both when I am in the car and out. It acts like it doesn't know the door is closed.

More than likely the door module inside the door. It controls the locks and the window indexing. The outside and inside switch both feed the module so if neither works the fault isn't in the switches. The next thing to happen is for the window to go crazy and start indexing up and down when you shut the door. Been there and had it fixed under warranty.

Great reply, thanks! Its a 2005 so no warranty, any idea how much a module costs? I'm kinda handy can I do it myself? Any suggestions?

Probably not slamming it hard enough. Just kidding. I have nothing useful to add here

I think Bill is right about the door module. I'll be watching your thread because I have a similar problem. The windows index properly when closing the door but after 7 minutes of driving (or even just ignition "on"), then shutting off, the driver window will occasionally index without opening the door, the door stays locked but will open after manually unlocking, and the RAP (accessory mode) doesn't stay on as it should. It's a timed event; 7 minutes. Otherwise it all works normally. The dealer can't figure it out. Replaced BCM and door module too but still does it. I'm beginning to wonder if they even DID replace the door module.

Maybe something helpful from the shop manual:

Power Windows Malfunction

Circuit/System Description
The vehicle is equipped with power windows controlled by door modules. The passenger door window can be operated, either from a power window switch built into the driver door switch assembly (DDSA), or from a power window switch mounted locally on the passenger door. The driver door window can be operated only from the driver door power window switch built into the DDSA.

When the driver door module (DDM) receives a driver door window switch request from the DDSA, the DDM examines the request and checks for messages from other vehicle control modules prohibiting the window movement. If no prohibitive messages have been received, the DDM will apply power and ground to the driver door window motor to move the window as requested.

When the passenger door module (PDM) receives a window switch request from either the DDSA or the window switch mounted locally to it, the PDM will examine the request and check for messages from other vehicle control modules prohibiting the window movement. If no prohibitive messages have been received, the door module will apply power and ground to its associated window motor to move the window as requested. For more detailed information concerning power window operation refer to Power Windows Description and Operation .

Circuit/System Testing
Power Window Inoperative - Driver Door

Ignition ON, command the driver window motor up and down with a scan tool. The driver window should move up and down when commanded.
⇒ If the driver window does not move up and down, replace the DDM.

If all circuits test normal, replace the DDSA.

Power Window Inoperative - Passenger Door
Ignition ON, command the passenger window motor up and down with a scan tool. The passenger window should move up and down when commanded.
⇒ If the passenger window does not move up and down, replace the PDM.

Observe the scan tool driver RF window switch parameter while activating the driver RF window switch to the up and down positions. The reading should change between up and down.
⇒ If the reading does not change between up and down, replace the DDSA.

Disconnect the harness connector at the passenger window switch.
Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the passenger window switch ground circuit terminal 4 and ground.
⇒ If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

Connect the harness connector at the passenger window switch.
Observe the scan tool Front Passenger Window Switch parameter while activating the passenger window switch to the up and down positions. The reading should change between up and down.
⇒ If the reading does not change between up and down, test the appropriate power window switch signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the passenger window switch.

If all circuits test normal, replace the PDM.

Power Door Locks Inoperative

Circuit/System Description
Driver Door Lock and Unlock Operation

The driver door lock switch lock and unlock signal circuits provide input to the driver door switch assembly (DDSA) when the driver door lock switch is activated to the Lock or Unlock position. These inputs allow the DDSA to detect a door lock or unlock request. The DDSA provides power to the driver door lock switch. When the driver door lock switch is activated, ground is supplied by G201. When the DDSA detects low voltage on a signal circuit, the DDSA will send a message on the serial data line to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) to place the driver and passenger doors in lock or unlock status, disabling or enabling the power door latch.

Passenger Door Lock and Unlock Operation
The passenger door lock switch lock and unlock signal circuits provide input to the passenger door module (PDM) when the passenger door lock switch is activated to the Lock or Unlock position. These inputs allow the PDM to detect a door lock or unlock request. The PDM provides power to the passenger door lock switch. When the passenger door lock switch is activated, ground is supplied by G202. When the PDM detects low voltage on a signal circuit, the PDM will send a message on the serial data line to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) to place the driver and passenger doors in lock or unlock status, disabling or enabling the power door latch.

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool LF door open switch parameter located in Keyless/Remote Start Data while opening and closing the driver door. The reading should toggle between OPEN and CLOSED.
⇒ If the reading does not change between the commanded states, refer to Automatic Door Locks Malfunction.

Observe the scan tool RF door open switch parameter located in Keyless/Remote Start Data while opening and closing the passenger door. The reading should toggle between OPEN and CLOSED.
⇒ If the reading does not change between the commanded states, refer to Automatic Door Locks Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing
Door Locks Inoperative from Driver Switch
Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the driver door lock switch.
Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal C and ground.
⇒ If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Door Lock Switch parameter is IDLE.
⇒ If the scan tool displays LOCK, test the signal circuit terminal D for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the DDSA.

⇒ If the scan tool displays UNLOCK, test the signal circuit terminal E for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the DDSA.

Install a 3-A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal D and ground. Verify the scan tool door lock switch parameter is LOCK.
⇒ If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal D for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the DDSA.

Install a 3-A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal E and ground. Verify the scan tool door lock switch parameter is UNLOCK.
⇒ If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal E for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the DDSA.

If all circuits test normal, test or replace the driver door lock switch.

Door Lock Inoperative from Passenger Switch
Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the passenger door lock switch.

If the circuit tests normal, replace the PDM.

⇒ If the scan tool displays UNLOCK, test the signal circuit terminal E for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PDM.

Install a 3-A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal D and ground. Verify the scan tool door lock switch parameter is LOCK.
⇒ If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal D for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PDM.

Install a 3-A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal E and ground. Verify the scan tool door lock switch parameter is UNLOCK.
⇒ If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal E for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PDM.

If all circuits test normal, test or replace the passenger door lock switch.

Automatic Door Locks Inoperative
Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the inoperative door latch assembly.
Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit and ground.
⇒ If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Door Open Switch parameter is CLOSED.
⇒ If the scan tool displays OPEN, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

Install a 3-A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit and ground. Verify the scan tool door open switch parameter is OPEN.
⇒ If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

If all circuits test normal, test or replace the inoperative door latch assembly.
